Computer crashing occasionally - Tour de Zwift

I’ve experienced some computer crashes on recent Tour de Zwift rides. It has only been on Tour de Zwiftrides - I don’t know if that is coincidental. It has happened about 3 times out of the 15 or so times I’ve done these rides in the last few weeks.
The sequence of events has been - Starting a Tour stage - i.e. London Flat. First, I get transported to Makuri Island, then to London, the screen goes haywire, and the computer does a hard crash. I don’t know if this has to do with loading and switching multiple worlds so quickly. I’ve often been riding in one world and jumped to another for an event. All my windows and display drivers are up to date.

Can you post all the details about your PC? CPU, GPU, memory, display driver version

The common theme of Tour de Zwift rides is that they tend to be well attended, which increases the CPU demands.

It is normal to get that “switching worlds” message in any event where the A pen starts in a world that is different from the pen you are in.

Laptop running Windows 11. I run Zwift in a window on a second display.

Device name Razer15
Processor Intel(R) Core™ i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB
Nvidia GeForce GTX1070 31.0.15.2737
Intel UHD Graphics 630 26.20.100.7261

Sounds like the hardware is more than adequate. I would check the display settings and set it to use the Nvidia GPU. Default is let Windows decide, which may select the Intel UHD graphics if it’s on battery power when you launch Zwift.

If you upload a log file from the crashed ride to zwiftalizer.com, it will tell you which GPU you were using when you ran the game. Whichever one it was, you could try the other one to see if it’s more stable. Of course the Nvidia one is preferred if it’s stable.

The video drivers are not latest versions. The Nvidia display driver that comes from Microsoft is usually stable for Zwift but updating it is an option. Recommended Nvidia settings for Zwift include Threaded Optimization set to ON, and Triple Buffering set to ON.

The Intel display driver that comes from Microsoft can often be made more stable by installing the latest version downloaded from Intel. Current is 31.0.101.2134. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/776137/intel-7th-10th-gen-processor-graphics-windows.html

The CPU is too old to get the Zwift video screenshots feature so no need to turn that off.

Other than that, the standard advice for Zwift on Windows is to turn off OneDrive, disable any anti-virus software other than Microsoft defender, install all current Windows updates and reboot. I assume since it’s a gaming laptop that it’s not part of a corporate AD domain with a bunch of extra security software that may get in your way.
