Companion app zwift update

Everytime zwift does an update my companion app will not open to the session I’m doing… It seems I have to uninstall the app from my MacBook and phone and reinstall…it’s driving me up the wall

that is very unusual, I’ve not seen any other reports about this. Usually the companion app issues not connecting to the “game” mode while you are riding are due to network issues, mesh networks, wifi extenders, etc… Do you have anything like that?

This sounds like the permissions thing that lots of other people have seen on the Mac, i.e. Companion not having the right permissions. I’m sure there are other threads on this.

I don’t think this is the issue as it always works fine until they issue a new update. I have got a new MacBook so will look at permissions as could be this :woman_shrugging:t2::flushed_face:

I’ll have a look … it only started when I got a new MacBook .

Two things you could try on the Mac:

  1. Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network, and toggle the permission for Zwift off and back on again

  2. Download and run the Zwift installer again. You should see a window pop up when you launch the game for the first time after that asking you to allow the same permission.

EDIT: oh I see you already tried reinstalling. Do you see that permission request? Strange that it would be forgotten after reinstalling.

Hi @Mel_Rooney, welcome to the forums! I’m Francisco from Zwift Support.

Thanks bring up this to the table!

A key point to note is that major iOS updates often reset app permissions to their default (more restrictive) settings, which can affect the functionality of the Zwift Companion app as Paul and colleagues mentioned.

This means you might need to manually grant permissions for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth again.

To fix this, please head over to this Apple support page and make sure that Location Services is enabled for Zwift Companion. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth permissions are bundled under Location Services, and this is what the Companion app needs to function properly.

After the iOS 18 update, you’ll likely find these permissions disabled, so go ahead and adjust them. Let us know if enabling these permissions solves your issue!

Check this other thread in our forum for references. Another clues here.

Thanks for all the responses… it seems to have sorted itself out? I did try the location setting thing but couldn’t even find zwift to allow permission. Hopefully it’s sorted after I’ve reinstalled it :folded_hands:
