Companion app won’t pair/connect

I’m using Apple TV and companion app. Has been working fine and was ok on Christmas Eve. Today, Boxing Day, the zwift game won’t use the companion app to pair anything so I cannot run zwift. I’ve tried reinstalling companion app but made no difference. I wasn’t aware of any updates that could have messed this up? Ta

Further to this I’ve just noticed that my phone is showing I have an Apple subscription to zwift which will renew on the 25th Jan but on the zwift site it is saying I don’t have a subscription and nothing has come out of my account yesterday so I am guessing my issue is because it thinks I don’t have an active subscription and for some reason rather than just tell me on the zwift programme it just won’t pair to things on my companion app… maybe? If I connect directly from Apple TV though I can connect to my kicker core but as I’m running the cog I don’t have enough connections to connect to the click controllers. :frowning:

Try rebooting both your Apple TV and your Companion device (phone?). If that doesn’t fix it then reboot your network equipment (router) as well.

Also make sure your phone is definitely not using a data connection, i.e. doesn’t have any kind of Wifi Assist enabled (where your phone picks the strongest signal out of the wifi and cellular data options).

And re-install Zwift on the Apple TV device in case it lost network permission during a tvOS update.

The Companion connection does not depend on an active subscription. An expired subscription would be a problem after you’re connected and trying to ride.

I’ve never once had to do that on my Apple TV, for what it’s worth.

Thanks for the input. I’ve reinstalled both companion app and Apple TV app. I’ve rebooted network and turned off any phone internet assist. Same situation though. Won’t pair anything through the phone anymore. Soo annoying.

Something is stopping your Apple TV from seeing your phone on your home network.

Can you describe all of the network equipment? Are there range extenders, mesh nodes, other stuff in addition to a single WiFi device? What is the router?

Gigaclear is the provider and fibre. I’m using their nodes but the node I’m on is hardwired back to the router so there is full signal. Never had a problem with it in 4 years. I don’t tbh think it’s to do with the network. It’s more likely to be a update or a communications issue from the Apple TV box and phone.

Yep possibly. Just checked phone and Apple TV ips same ending 124 & 125 so definitely on the same network.

Have you already rebooted all of the mesh nodes as well? I do think it’s a problem with communication between the Companion app and the game on Apple TV over your network, but I don’t think it’s a problem with the game or Companion version or there would be a lot more noise about it in the various places that I listen.

Yep, afraid so, turned everything off at the mains for a minute before turning back on. I’m at a loss tbh.

A couple other experiments you could try: (1) connect Apple TV to the WiFi network instead of using Ethernet, (2) configure the WiFi system to separate networks for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands

Hi @Russell_Scott, welcome to the Forums! I’m Francisco from Zwift Support.

I noticed that your setup is running iOS 26.1, which can be updated to iOS 26.2 (released on December 12, 2025). Your Apple TV is also on an outdated version, tvOS 17.6.1, while the latest available is tvOS 26.2.

Can you try to update both devices to the latest versions? After that, uninstall and reinstall the Zwift app, and make sure to allow your Apple TV app permissions to refresh sync.

You may also want to do the same permissions with the Zwift Companion app on your iPhone so it can properly detect your Apple TV over the WIFI network. Additionally, try turning off mobile data on your phone and using WIFI only to see if that helps.

For detailed steps, please check this article: Issues with Zwift Companion App. Regarding your membership seems to be ok.

Thank you for your input Francisco. I have updated to the latest version on both phone iOS and Apple TV. I have deleted and then reinstalled apps on both platforms but get the same result. It won’t use my phone companion app as a bridge to Bluetooth the kickr core, zwift cog/click and HR monitor. I get nothing. If I choose to connect via Bluetooth I can connect to the kickr core but it’s no good without the cog/click units.

Thanks.

Do the Clicks use one, or two connections to Zwift? If they just use a single connection you should be able to connect the trainer and the Clicks directly to the ATV, as the Cog doesn’t need any connection.

Mmmm not sure as I also connect a HRM. Maybe I can not use a HRM. I’ll try that later. That might at least let me train. I suspect 2 mind.

One other question, given the timing: did anyone in the house get anything new for Christmas that might be adding some interference to the area?

It’s working! Hay! Thanks all. I think the updates must have worked although I notice before it just connected all the devices automatically whereas now I have to select each device individually and connect it. Either way I can train again so many thanks all.

Yep it seems I have to individually connect each device each time I fire up zwift which is annoying but at least it works. Thanks.
