Companion app doesn't work on shared mobile network

This is my setup:

  • Main Zwift app is running on an iPad
  • Network access is provided from an iPhone sharing network to the iPad
  • Companion app is running on this same iPhone

The problem is in the subject: I can’t get the Companion app to connect to the main Zwift app, presumably because while they are on the same network, technically they are not both on wifi. Any ideas how to solve this? Thanks!

This is due to the iPhone hotspot isolation of devices, this is a iPhone security feature.

Oh, so the Companion app and the main app communicate locally, not through the internet? Makes sense then. Damn it, have to buy another AP and some cables. Thanks!

You are correct, they need to be on the same local network.

I don’t think it’s going to work but deserves a try. Search something named like ‘host isolation’ on the hotspot setup and disable that.
