Can you use virtual shifting with Zwift Play and a non-zwift turbo?

I have a Elite Direto smart turbo - thinking of purchasing the Zwift play controllers. One of the big things is the virtual shifting - but does it work with a non-Zwift turbo, or does it only work with the Hub trainer? (or the Hub One just launched). Thanks

You need a Zwift Hub.
