Newbie questions about virtual shifting. Thanks for any help
My setup is Wahoo Kickr Core, Zwift Play controllers, Apple TV, Zwift Companion app on iOS.
I can use the Play controllers to shift gears, but I don’t find the buttons very responsive.
I also don’t really like the way the gears are spaced. I’m often in gears 12 & 13, but never anywhere near gear 24.
My questions:
Is it possible to swap the steering and shifting buttons on the Play controller?
Is it possible to use the Trainer Difficulty slider when you’re also using virtual shifting? So far when I adjust the TD slider it seems to make no difference. But I’d like to get more range in the lower gears.
Is it possible to use the Zwift Click instead of the play controllers to change gears, without changing the rest of the setup? I don’t want to also fit a Zwift Cog, I want to leave the cassette in place.
Is it possible to buy the Zwift Click without also buying a Zwift Cog?
It’s possible you misunderstand what that setting does. It scales the resistance of the trainer caused by gradient changes, so it has no effect unless you are climbing or descending.
On the Trainer Difficulty slider. Before I switched to Virtual Shifting, I found that lowering the TD slider for hilly routes meant that all my gears were much easier to turn. That’s what I mean by getting more range in the low gears.
My understanding is that lowering the Trainer Difficulty slider is like putting on a different cassette, giving more low gears or more high gears. Do I have that wrong?
I was expecting that lowering the TD slider with virtual shifting would make each gear easier, and so that gear 1 would be easier on very steep bits. So far my experience is that gear 12 is the same, no matter where I put the TD slider.
Lowering Trainer Difficulty is like having lower gears when you are going uphill, higher gears when you are going downhill, and no change in gears when you are on a flat road. It’s changing the slope of the hill in terms of the resistance you get from the trainer.
