I have recently started Zwifting off my iPhone and watching YouTube on my Apple TV. In the last two weeks I have noticed that when I’m in a group ride (50+ riders) my Apple TV’s internet connection completely drops out. I have a 50mb/ps fibre line and both devices are connected via WiFi.
iPhone works perfectly, no lag or dropouts in game but YouTube simply doesn’t play. If I end the group ride it’s back to normal.
Thoughts?
Possibly some sort of interference? Maybe hardwire the Apple TV?
Thanks I checked and the Apple TV in the garage is a 4K gen1 so it has WiFi5 and my phone WiFi 6 so I’m guessing it’s being drowned. Will have to try the hardwire option or upgrade it to a WiFi 6 one.
I really doubt that’s it Your phone will connect via Wifi 5 to the ATV in that case. But I would still try hardwiring your ATV and that’s how I use my own ATV 4K 1st gen.
The bandwidth requirements of Zwift (and YouTube) are not that big. WiFi 6 is not required. Also YouTube gives you the option to adjust the video quality down so you could try that.
If you don’t have strong WiFi signal in the garage that could also be a factor. If you have a mesh network you could locate a node nearer to your training area. Or if you’re not using a mesh network you could use a powerline Ethernet adapter.
Thanks guys, I have swapped my second gen 4k ATV from the lounge to the garage. Will try that and then hardwire it.
