Assistance Required for Zwift Cog Installation

I am reaching out regarding an issue with the Zwift Cog I purchased. Upon receiving the Zwift Cog, I noticed metal shavings on the cog which caused significant damage to my equipment. I promptly contacted support and received a replacement cog from Zwift.

Recently, I attempted to install the replacement following the provided instructions. However, I encountered a problem: the ring on the existing cog is worn out and turns freely, making it impossible to unscrew and remove the existing cog wheel.

Are you using the chain whip and lockring tool combined like in this video?

Yes following this step by step. Issue is that the ring is no more sticking to the cog. So the lock ring is not finding a grip to go against the chain whip action. Please refer to the image. thanks

Im slightly confused that image looks like a the lock ring tool with lock ring around it?

or if that is just for display you mean the existing lock ring turns completely freely as if it’s not threaded?

existing lock ring turns completely freely as if it’s not threaded

short of sawing it out not sure what the answer is. will mean the freehub is quite possibly damaged as well. I wonder if you could use pliers or something to try grab it a little to give it some outer pull while you turn it if that makes any difference

See if anyone else has ideas

If the lockring won’t tighten up then you’ve probably stripped the threads on the lockring. It’s also possible that you’ve damaged the threads on the freehub too.

So they sent you a replacement cog that did not come with another freehub body? If that’s the case you might want to contact them again and ask for another freehub body so you can just pull the whole assembly (cog + freehub body) off the trainer and replace it.

Another option might be to remove the QR adapter from the trainer so you can grab the lockring with pliers and pull while turning it.

It looks like an aluminum lockring so it’s more likely that the lockring is stripped than the freehub which is steel.

Thanks Paul will try this out. Will keep u posted.

Thanks Gordon.

Was able to remove the old Cog. But the new one is already assembled and wont go in as it is. Am I missing something ? Thanks

Your new cog is installed on a freehub. The old freehub is still on the trainer. There is a support article on replacing the freehub.

You should remove the old freehub and save it for a spare.
