Adding a Graphics Card for Zwift?

Running Zwift on an old machine using on board graphics. Zwift hangs on startup, sometimes showing “not responding” and uses 50% of my RAM when playing. Would buying a graphics card help the situation?

These are my specs:
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Intel Core i3 2120 @ 3.30GHz
8GB DDR3 RAM @ 1333MHz
Intel DH67BL Motherboard
120GB Crucial SSD

The Intel HD Graphics show Device ID 8086-0102, GPU Clock 850 MHz.

All graphics cards are alien to me but looking to spend £30-60, this GT 710 card on Amazon looks well reviewed but is it going to give any noticeable performance upgrade over the on board graphics?

I play in the lowest 576 graphics setting right now, it would be nice to go higher but ultimately just looking to see if there is an easy and cheap gain to be had with a graphics card?

Yes.
I’m surprised Zwift even runs on your old machine.
Don’t buy a GT710, it’s a very old office card.
Look for a used GTX960/970 or GTX1050/1060.

Robin, I had a GT 730, had FPS 20 with 1080 resolution. Bought GTX 1650, FPS 80 @ 1440.
If you want I send you the old card, you need just pay the postage, but you are not going to be happy… take a look at some GPU benchmarks, e.g.

Edit - try to find a used GTX 1050i at least.

Thanks for the kind offer.

As you suggest I will spend the extra money and go for something with a bit more umph to get the better frame rates and resolution. Cheers.

You are welcome.
I have a TV with 1080, so no need for 1440, but tested some options for better graphics today.
Read this article:

My FPS at least 55, average 80, max. 105 - in Tour de Watopia, group ride, >400 riders.
I used this option:
ULTRA OVERRIDE FOR MEDIUM TO HIGH-END RADEON AND NVIDIA CARDS THAT DON’T GET ULTRA BY DEFAULT (GTX 1650 has still got no ultra from Zwift, so I edited high.txt).
Worked perfectly, should be similar with the 1050i. I bought the 1650 - is a new one and was just 10 Euros more.
Good luck, ride on!
