THanks Sam - I was in as Yellow long before the Red beacon and this was the same regardless of whether the red beacon late joined or not.
It’s strange, I’ve had it that mid-ride primary yellow dropped out and the beacon fell to me, I couldn’t see it over me and my messages to me where as normal, but others on the ride saw my messages as the main ones and the beacon over my head.
On our Friday ride the Yellow beacon saw the backup Red as holding the beacon the entire ride and I saw the correct red beacon…
I think I’ve seen comments about this from @Steve_May as well
Thats a long standing bug that does not happen 100% of the time. It can take exactly 10 minutes for the Yellow switch to on Windows / Macs but its instant for those on apple TV. Its only been happing for 2 years so maybe it not top of the list yet to fix
I haven’t seen this bug personally as of yet; but one of my leaders confirmed with me the other night if I had the red beacon; as he (yellow beacon), was unable to see the red beacon over me during the ride.
We haven’t had as many issues recently with Yellow, but we’ve had times in the recent past where the Yellow Beacon took a different turn than the rest of the group. Once they realized what happened, they dropped. I was next in line for Yellow and it took quite awhile for everyone to see me with the Beacon.
This bug is still present in Zwift. I am speculating here. Could this be caused by some server synchronization issue? Beacon 1 joins the ride. His server sees no red beacon and so assigns him the red beacon. Beacon 2 joins the ride a bit later but connects to a different server. That server has not been informed yet that Beacon 1 is already red. It does not see a red beacon assigned and assigns it to Beacon 2. This never gets updated later. People connecting to server 1 seems Beacon 1 as red and those in server 2 sees Bacon 2 as red.
I can’t remember if i have sent in logs for this but it’s still a pretty common issue. With one social ride a week i feel like i see it 20-30% of the time.
Does anyone care. still want logs?
We are having non-stop issues with the red beacon in Cycle Nation group rides and it seems to have got worse in the last few months. Red beacons not showing for some (including the ride leader), different red beacons showing for different riders, red beacon not going to the correct person when there is a list.
This issue seem still not been solved and is meanwhile very annoying. Last happened this afternoon on groupride where I was yellow beacon. For most of the riders the red beacon was invisible. So strugglers had no orientation and also for me it is difficult to keep the group with not knowing where reds are. On others we have multiple reds, which is likewise big bug and a main failure which makes it impossible to use Zwift as it should.
I agree with the previous two comments. On the Sunday D rides of Cycle Nation at times different people see different red beacons. Eg #3 or #4 beacon logs in before #2 or #1. Those that logged in early will continue to see #3 (or 4) as red beacon while those logging in after #1 (or 2) joined will see #1. This is confusing for all and especially for red team coordination. Sweeping is taking serious and everyone that can be brought back to the peloton
On EVO Flux rides happen the same! In one ride I can see 3 different red beacons! I am yellow on Friday am and my red is Roel! And I see Suzie, Greg, Marc Salvia… all except Roel that I should see… sometimes I don’t see any red beacon! That happened last friday on Flux pm! and lots of times on EVO badge hunt ride on saturday am where I should see Greg… This is very annoying… please solve this ASAP!!! thank you in advance!!
This has been ongoing for months/years.
We still see it pretty often that the red beacon is not visible or on the wrong person sometimes. Different riders have different views as well so it’s not entirely obvious there is an issue unless somebody says so.
I was about to start a new post about this issue until I came across this one. We have been having constant issues with Red Beacon visibility over the last month or so and it’s becoming very disruptive to our group rides.
This morning for example, most of our riders didn’t even see a Red Beacon visible at all. We had at least two people on our sweep roster on the ride, and neither of them had the beacon. About 25 minutes into the ride, another person from our sweep roster joined, and then everyone could finally see that individual with the beacon.
This has been getting worse and worse recently. I hope this helps get some visibility to the issue. I did contact support a couple weeks ago, but they were asking for a video of the issue. I’m not sure how a video is going to do any good since the issue isn’t isolated to one or all riders.
On our ride this morning for BMTR Short Adventure (D), our Red Beacon Kendall was selected didn’t populate and he was in attendance. Another rider on the roster late joined and then got the beacon assignment.
When this occurs, sometimes people see one beacon, no beacon, or different beacons from each other.
ZwiftApp 1.64 for me. @Steve_May has observed and reported on this.
Such a longstanding issue. Do Zwift developers do anything or are they too busy twiddling their thumbs and implementing important features like Ride On Bomb visual effects and other stuff which literally nobody requests?
Thanks Greg, I actually just commented on a different thread about the same thing, but I’ll put it here too.

I still have yet to personally have this happen to me; however, it did happen to my leader yesterday in respect to me on red.
Another leader of ours sometimes sees two reds, but again… this has never happened on my end. (This would’ve been the same user I commented about having this issue back in August of last year earlier up in this thread).
Yesterday’s ride the leader is on AppleTV, our other leader this happens too fairly often, is on Windows (I need to ask if he’s on 11, I’m unsure. I am on 10 though for the record).
I didn’t even show up apparently as online / on the ride at all for her which was even more unusual.
We joined at virtually the same time however, so no idea if that has any relation, but making note of it.
I made the choice to rejoin at the last second before the start to “fix” it, and for anyone else… which seemed to have worked; after I rejoined I was visible to the leader.
There’s a major skill/competency issue in Zwift Engineering.
As observed on ZwiftApp 1.65 this morning on the SROZ ride (18 May 2024 at 4:50AM PDT).
Some riders saw one Red Beacon (H.R. Pufnstuf = “Jeff”). Some riders saw another (Kent “K. Henderson”). Some riders (like in my case) saw none. I’m using ZwiftApp 1.65 on Windows 11.
In today’s HCC Wellness ride (4398959) we first had Mari Holden as leader in the starting pen, but she had technical difficulties and exited the event before the start. Charlotte Backus Turner joined in the starting pen as the replacement leader. Then when the event started, some riders saw Charlotte as the leader, and others saw no leader at all. Part way through the event, Charlotte received the yellow beacon.
Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone from any other clubs has had this issue…
My name is gav I sweep and lead for team 3R.
Over a number of rides, the red beacon has not been visible to the other riders, especially the yellow lead.
Occasionally some riders will see red, but some won’t. It doesn’t happen on every ride , it’s a bit more sporadic…
Sometimes if the red sweep leaves and re joins the ride, everyone can see the beacon. But this doesn’t always work…
Any ideas on how to fix the issue would be good… thanks gav
