I’m perplexed at the reasons rowing got dumped - if it was based on surveying existing zwift users - these aren’t the people waiting to pay Zwift for rowing.
There’s 10s of thousands of C2 users wanting a VR world, to train and race in - all with compatible hardware and not to mention money ready to go.
Yeah totally agree. I’m cancelling my membership today not just for the reason they aren’t bringing rowing to zwift but for a few reasons. I’m mainly not happy with the direction it’s going and to me Zwift feels more like a gimmick and after 3 years of membership it’s a sad day.
Yes quite disappointed. I had put myself on the C2 waiting list. Looked around the web for apps. But nothing that would be even close to what Zwift could have had. So going to cancel the C2. Shame. Zwift would have been the only real VR platform for rowing. Hopefully somebody else will step up.
Painsled will log HRM data from an Ant+ HRM attached to the PM3/5 but it does not then emulate a BLE HRM to pass along to Zwift. There IS an HRM field in the cycling FTMS emulation but I have never seen Zwift pick it up.
I just tested it today, it works perfectly. I used a Garmin heart rate monitor run and paired it to the pm5 and the pm5 paired to painsled then painsled paired my HR to zwift
Ha, nice. I haven’t updated that app in over 2 years at this point so I’m starting to lose track of what it actually does! Hope it is a useful tool for you in your fitness endeavors. Look for an update in, oh, I don’t know, 2021?
Lol, it was very helpful for me because I don’t have to get a new HR monitor now that has Bluetooth, I will probably still get one because it is kinda a pain to do all that pairing
I have a EXR betakey. When they implement online rowing, you can forget about anything else. Im waiting my fingers crossed, they are not liars like zwift.
Well if some other company can implement rowing and capture this supposed large untapped market, that’s great for everyone! They’re going to make loads of money and customers are getting the product they want that Zwift doesn’t provide. And now we have some idea how much money and customers are involved, which is a lot information than any marketing survey can provide.
Thanks for the candid response Mike, I see also posts where a survey was cited, I wonder whether this was done with Concept2 to target people who are not yet zwift members? There is a vast pool of new userbase that could generate significant income for Zwift, and would justify more development resource. I would have thought there are far more C2s than connected treadmills around (but I may be woefully mistaken). The ‘features’ that are being worked on currently are doing very little to increase the userbase for Zwift, it seems like your product department aren’t doing a very good job identifying what the priorities are, best of luck with the continuing development.
Hi Chris,
The survey people are mentioning was a survey of existing Zwift users - so these are people who already cycle and/or run, and are probably not the biggest potential revenue stream for rowing, compared to those who don’t yet use Zwift but who row as their primary form of exercise. Eric Min said on the Zwiftcast that this survey changed their minds about launching rowing.
My hunch is the survey may have made them realise that if they got a load of new rowers onto Zwift they’d end up with even more people grumbling about the same things people grumble about at the moment. I think John Mayfield’s comment of “No secret we have lots of things to improve” supports this.
So they probably decided it was wiser to smooth out some of the user interface issues - and make the process of getting on board easier - before adding rowing.
If you have a Concept2, you might want to check out EXR. It’s in beta right now, but is a similar idea to Zwift (only just for rowing). https://exrgame.com/
