I purchased the Zwift play controlers and fitted the to my drop bar bike on my Elite Directo trainer.
The issue I Have found is that having size 9 hands whenever I want to use stearing the buttons are too close to my Sram Levers. Therefore I catch them and the brake is applied slowing me down.
2nd issue. Now that elite have issued update 87 to enable electronic shifting the side buttons for changing gear are very thin and hard to feel as they don’t stand proud.
And then when your fumbling to press them, you catch the steering shifter and cause the brake to be activated again.
It would be better to have a flat lever on the front for steering control like a paddle shifter.
then a raised guard edge between the edge of the unit and a slightly raised larger button for the gear buttons, meaning that they are easier to find and feel and your finger won’t catch the steering lever due to the guards on the edge of the unit.
I am also now considering removing the original Shifters from the handlebars to get more room for the play controlers.
First thing to do is go into the game settings and move the Braking Sensitivity slider all the way to the left so that mostly-useless feature will never bother you again
Simple solution to the problem. I used a bit of plastic spru from a model set, cut it to size, filed the edges ans superglued it in place between the shifter buttons and the steering Shifters.
Used it tonight on my ride and it works perfect. Your finger does not go forward and miss the shifter button at all.
Yes, I have industrial grade superglue for my warhammer models so used that.
Just make sure you don’t use to much and stick the steering paddle as well.
I used a cocktail stick to keep it away from any glue.
It sticks very easy and is solid. Did a 40km ride and used it throughout. So easy to find the shifter buttons and a simple light press and it’s great.
I’ve been trying to think of why they didn’t make the shifters more prominent and more clicky. Not sure how I can modify it to make the shifters easier to find and press, they are rather fiddly to press, recessed buttons. Why don’t they protrude and have a nice click.
Changing gear is probably the most used function, so these should be the most prominent and easiest to press… currently it’s as though they are hidden. I see the are much better on the zwift bike. Perhaps Zwift realised the mistake and improved them on the bike as a second design iteration.
