Zwift on M1 iPad Pro

My understanding is the M1 Macs currently run the “High” graphics tier in Zwift, and that that’s when running through the macOS x86 emulation layer.

All iPads seem to run “Basic” graphics currently, but with the iPad now getting an M1, I’d imagine we’d get at least “High”, right? Maybe better, since the iOS app would be running natively?

Looking forward to hearing more!

very interested in this as well. zwift needs to really start to take advantage of this stuff. m1 is obviously the future of apple. better for them to capitalize and optimize it now

i’d settle for them getting the Apple TV remote working properly first !

Would really love this as well. M1 iPad Pros are working now but not making use of this processor!

I’ve seen mention of this around the forums but not in this section (where I assume it belongs) - I would love it if Zwift could enable higher graphics profile settings on these new M1 iPad Pros, which are incredibly powerful but seem to perform the same as prior generations.

This 100%

I can not agree more … the new iPad Pro should be cabable to run more advanced graphics. @Ride_Cyclery please at a profile for the M1 iPad Pros.

I cannot even set the graphics level. It’s not there in settings. Anybody else experiencing this?

There’s no option to set the graphics level on any platform. Resolution can be chosen, on Mac and PC only.

sooooo…how’s this coming along? still basic profile i see…

This “we’ll decide what’s best for you” attitude is incredibly frustrating and by no means limited to Zwift.

There are things that are long overdue like better graphics engine or optimisations for modern architectures (some already years on the market). One can of course understand that, as they’re incredibly resource intensive to make and test right, even though years seems to be way too long a timeline in software development even with a lot of patience involved.

But how difficult is it to ask x amount of testers who own some kind of device to run the game at certain settings and send the results back? You don’t even have to buy the device yourself or ask the manufacturer for a testing device ahead of the release (like, you know, software developers do).

That would, naturally, require an actual graphics quality setting to be available as a choice. Oh! Wink wink.

Because there are devices you know, that are capable to perform better than some “Ultra” blessed setups, yet are still limited to some ridiculously limiting settings. Who knows, maybe it’s some creative plot how to make people spend on yet another setup just to enjoy a bit of an eye candy. GPU scalpers rejoice.

yeah well i’m probably a couple of weeks away from ditching zwift. i don’t think they understand what their users want and instead are enamored with chasing the peloton crowd. i wish them luck but there are other better platforms that respond to my needs

Interested in this too, especially now the new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips have been released for the new MacBook Pro’s.

Can we please be allowed to choose our own graphics settings?

+Bump, Please make use of this Functionality on the IPAD PROS, basic settings is not necessary on a M1 Chip.

I’m shocked this isn’t supported yet.

As far as I can tell it’s just a lookup table, they don’t have to code anything new as such. Some Apple devices do have bespoke profiles, but I’m doubtful that it’s obligatory.

They have to do nothing like that. They just determine which preset (basic, low, medium, high) is used according to the device/system.

I don’t really know how fast the M1 CPUs are, but this might be the same problem even guys with fast PCs face. That is the completely crap engine that is unable to use more than 1 CPU core. That’s the reason why some fast systems run bad (low FPS) while the CPU and GPU utilisation is under 50 %.

There are examples of the M1 Pro and M1 Max on Reddit with very good 1440 (high) FPS scores (Zwift Analyser). It seems the excellent single core performance of the M1 chip works well for Zwift. So surely the GPU on the Pro/Max can handle Ultra settings rather than just high.

Since single core CPU performance is the main performance limiter in Zwift, that sounds probable.
