ZWIFT on Android TV BOX

Hello,
I know that the minimum requirements for Android Hardware/Software is (from support zwift com)

  • Android® 9.0 or higher
  • Arm64-v8a ABI (Arm64 architecture)
  • At least 2 GB of RAM
  • At least 4 GB of free storage space
  • OpenGL ES 3.0 or higher
  • Bluetooth version 4.0 or higher

I have an android tv box with these specification

Android 12
ArmV8 Processor Rev 4 V8I
4GB of RAM
23GB of free storage
OpenGL ES 3.2 v1…
Bluetooth 4.x

but I’m not able to install Zwift.

Could you please tell me what’s wrong in my tv box? there’s some specific way to install it?

Kind Regards,
Luigi

Zwift is not supported on Android TV. If you search the forum you will find several discussions about it. Years ago the company said it was coming but they never released it. Some people have sideloaded the APK but I haven’t heard any success stories recently.

Hi @Luigi_Paracchini welcome to Zwift forums.

Shuji from Zwift HQ here. We do not support Android TV, nor do we have plans to develop for this platform. We do however, support Android on smartphones and tablets.

Hi,
thank you for your time, it’s a real shame.
it’s really inconvenient to mirror your phone, it would be so simple to have the app directly in the android box.
I reluctantly acknowledge it.
Kind regards,
Luigi

I’m afraid the market share of the Android TV doesn’t warrant the time and effort required to make Zwift compatible.

But like Linux. Niche market.

That’s definitely not the case. The Google TV/android TV market share is around 4x the size of Apple TV.

It’s yet another misconception that the world revolves around the Apple ecosphere. Globally, android dwarfs ios at almost 3x the size.

It’s either laziness on the developers part, or a blinkered approach to what the user base actually want. You can’t seriously believe that Google TV is minor player when almost every new TV and projector comes with Android TV built in, all the Android based streaming sticks, and so on.

But those devices you talk about do not have the processing power to be able to run Zwift.

as far as I’m concerned, it’s no longer a problem for me, I changed platform, also thanks to the latest fee increase that happened

Not true

I fully support your view. It is really inconvenient that Zwift can’t run on a Android TV but it runs on a Apple TV with a comparative small market share.

Happy to be proven wrong if you have evidence.

Just check the post a little bit further up from Luigi as a case in point or just visit Amazon. There are many for sale with more than enough processing power.

None of us knows how big the opportunity is for Zwift. Some things we do know: Android tablet market share is collectively bigger than Apple, and yet Zwift have said there are around 10X more iPad users of Zwift than users of Android tablets. Market share alone is not an adequate measure of their opportunity.

I’m sure there are Android TV devices that would be perfectly acceptable for running Zwift and I doubt there is a technical barrier to doing it, but still there may not be a good enough reason to do it relative to other priorities.

But his post isn’t saying it’s running Zwift and all is fine. Could be it won’t run on that spec.

There’s little control over the hardware specs of Android devices which makes more difficult for Zwift to rollout to such devices. Whereas Apple TV specs are fixed so Zwift can cater carte blanche for ATV.

More excuses. That is exactly why I am not using Zwift currently. If it can run on a Android phone, specs are also not controlled, there is really no reason it should not run on a Android box. Something just doesn’t sound right.

Not excuses. It’s reality. The android market is a free for all. Zwift will not run on all Android phones/ tablets and only now are they getting to grips with tailoring it to take into account the hardware specs to improve performance. Android TV is not standardised enough as most manufacturers use their own overlay. To add in effect another platform to that which has a minimal market share is in my opinion wasted time. .

Same argument for Linux.

Wow!! And just there another excuse. My goodness get with the market and make some money, but I wish Zwift good luck. I think I’ve said my piece and maybe I will even decide to use Zwift one day, because I like the feel of their platform.
