Zwift Insider VO2sday Micro Races

Starts 1800 BST on 5th May 2026.

Five mini TTs, spaced 10mins apart.

Usually a mix of flat; uphill; rolling; downhill routes.

No drafting.

No restriction on frames or wheels.

First week using zFTP for pen allocation, future weeks planning to use Compound Score (hopefully a weight based one like zrCS).

May add more time zones, if popular.

I’m not a TT guy but I can see this would be a perfect workout.

I’ve often used the four Tiny Races as a VO2max workout. I wish I could get Zwift/Garmin/Intervals.ICU to combine them as one power file instead of 4 independent rides. Maybe there is a way?

You can combine the files. First download the individual fit files from your feed in Zwift. Then go to the site FitFileTools. Use the Combine option. Upload each of the files. Hit combine, and then download the new file. You can then upload it wherever. I always make sure the new file is there. Then I delete the old files. I hope this helps.

Using Category Enforcement (with 6min zMAP predicted W/Kg of ~3.2/4.1/5.1/5.1+ iirc along with zFTP limits for predicted 40mins+ W/Kg), pens of ~50/110/130/50 respectively gave five Micro TTs of varying profile a time range per pen of no more than ~1min30secs for everyone in the correct pen who didn’t get flagged by zwiftracingapp.

This Tuesday, pen allocation has changed to Compound Score (5mins pure Watts x 5mins W/Kg) and the pen ranges are wild…
D 0-1100 (realistically ~400 to 1100)
C 1100-1400
B 1400-1800
A 1800+

No doubt the reasoning is to try and make pen sizes more equal, but pen size means nothing good when the ability range will be massive in pens A and D, quite probably reducing signups before/during/after this coming Tuesday.

Sure, pen allocation ranges are subject to change going forward, but this initial Compound Score week is diabolical for someone not organising their first popular racing rodeo.

A big difference between the two is that mathematically w/kg favours heavier riders, while CS favours lighter riders. Favours meaning they go faster at the same score.

Comparing the systems to zrCS I’d say the A threshold is slightly lower, the B and C groups are both a bit tighter, with the top of D having a higher standard.

Being non-drafting events, shorter riders have a significant advantage that isn’t accounted for in the categorisation thanks to their lower CdA.

We could certainly do with height being added to the pen allocation factors for zrCS; Category Enforcement and whatever replaces the junk Zwift Racing Score.

I’m feeling thicker than normal and cannot work out what the “time” and “rank” columns mean in the league GC table for Micro Races.

Anyone have any idea?

Is “time” the average time to complete each of the five micro races rounded to the nearest second?

Zone 1 results are up on zwiftpower…

Results according to zwiftracingapp, so you can see how racers performed compared to expectations…
