Zwift crashes on France world after about 10 minutes

My current version is 1.0.54377

Is that the one I should have, if not, how do I force the update?

I see the problem with the latest Zwift update from Aug 13 (1.0.54537). The behavior was slightly different: the crash was immediate instead of the cadence/speed/HR area going blank first.

Iā€™m not sure what to do next. As I noted earlier, I biked Ven-top during the virtual TdF and had no issues, so I donā€™t think my hardware is struggling to render this world.

Did you change your graphics settings by manually editing config txt files?

I did modify them a long time ago an have never had a problem. With the defualt, the GPU load was very low so I took most settings from the next level. So I modified them according to the suggestions on zwiftinsider.
Thatā€™s a good point though ā€“ let me revert to defaults and see what happens.

Definitely worth a try, a few people I know that had issues with crashing in France all realised they were running modified config files so it seemed to be a common denominator.

Well this definitely helped. I made 4 modifications based on things I read and now France is not crashing.

  • GPU PhysX always assigned to the more powerful GPU
  • GPU vertical sync off
  • Zwift config: same as ultra except for bolded items
    • res 1920x1080(0x)
    • sres 1024x1024
    • set gSSAO=1
    • set gFXAA=1
    • set gSimpleReflections=0
    • set gSunRays=1
    • set gHeadlight=1
    • set gFoliagePercent=1
    • set gLODBias=0

I do think the system is underutilized with the GPU at 40% and CPU at 15% and system memory at ~50%. I may try to revert some of my changes to get more realism.

The only change doing anything there is the shadow res. Foliage youā€™ve set to 100% which itā€™s on anyway. You should just be on default, these mods arenā€™t needed on Ultra profile.

Edit: sorry, got your GPU mixed up, not sure youā€™re on Ultra. Anyway it seems to be any mods from default that cause instability on France.

Hi Dave,
I am normally running on medium because my GPU isnā€™t one of the recognized ultra models (Itā€™s an M2000; I also have a K2000 installed). For that reason, I followed the recipe on Zwift Insider to mimic an ultra profile, which had worked up till now. BTW, I do see a difference between foliage 1 and 2, so I may try to dial that up. I donā€™t see a lot of visual impact of having a lower shadow resolution so far.

Just tried itā€¦ still crashes with 54537

Yeah I saw that after originally posting. :+1: Foliage at 2 is 200%, so double the amount found on Ultra by default. Itā€™s normally only reduced by the other profiles, not increased. Go steady with that one, itā€™ll put a lot of additional strain on your GPU.

But yeah I think you need to be totally stock to be as sure as possible of avoiding crashes. The frame counter doesnā€™t seem to cause a problem though.
