Zwift branding getting it wrong… with the new font (a letter lost in this forum from a user, but also designer)

You mean a custom font unlock, right?

Don’t get crazy Nigel. One new font every 6 years is enough productivity for the dev team

Yeah first thing I noticed was that 1 looked like 7. Cross the 7 or chop the 1 please.

I am not a fan of the new font at all. It’s pretty bad and I wish there was a way to switch back to the old font. Or provide an option to select any font choice I want.

There is on PC and Mac.

Both myself and my wife agree - this font is terrible. The ones and sevens look too similar, and two’s look like “z”. I am not against font changes, but please use one that makes reading every letter and number easy!!! I am currently riding along thinking I am doing 780 watts - oh its only 180!!

What the what, a whole day has almost gone by and the forum is still using Arial?

Oh really? I use a PC with Windows. Can you point me to instructions for switching for a PC?

Copy those files into your install.

Changing the font on a UI as dated, dysfunctional, and cartoony awful as Zwift’s would be the absolute definition of ‘lipstick on a pig’, if it weren’t for the fact that it’s not even lipstick because the new font is terrible, like Windows 95 gimmick font terrible. Like many I assume, I sweat quite bit while Zwifting and wearing my glasses doesn’t make sense, so now a lot of the text and the large majority of the numbers on the HUD are totally illegible. 7 and 1 are particularly hopeless. How on earth does Zwift manage to find the time to actively make needless changes to make the product worse when so very, very, little in the way of improvement ever trickles out, presumably because the entire company is barely treading water?!

On the positive news - the font is not used on this forum…yet :grinning:.

I was riding with it for the first time today and my feelings are mixed as well. Part of the discomfort is for sure due to the fact that it is new and we are not used to it. But I agree that some typography elements were not chosen well and do not help to good readability.

Maybe it could have been A/B tested first on percentage of users with similar survey post-ride like there was for Pace Partners in past? That would be my feedback for future.

I think the new font look nice, I do agree the nose of the ONE (1) is to long. Or to put it differently It does not deduct from my current Zwift experience and it did not stop me from riding.

A font would have to be pretty disastrously terrible to actually stop you riding wouldn’t it?

The ones look very weird but the ones and sevens don’t look similar at all.

Just o be clear, it’s not about the font looks nicer than the old one, it’s about not being the kind that is designed to perform well on readability, legibility, on displaying large sentences, paragraphs, data, interface calls to action and so on.

It is a display font, designed to be expressive, to work well displaying words, big titles, logos, maybe some highlights, etc.

If they wished a family that could covers everything, they’ll need to invest in a typography project for the brand. This was a bad shortcut. For me that’s all.

Yes, I noticed that, but I meant the messages etc. It is already deployed everywhere on Zwiftpower as well after all…

Hate font! We should be allowed to change it back. 1 looks like 7. Bpm over 700! So stupid why introduce something without the ability to change!

Not that you asked me but I’m gonna give it to you anyway, my feedback would stop faffing/wasting resources with cosmetics for now and focus on known shortcomings and community requests.

It’s not a match but it reminds me of something from Star Wars, okay maybe not Star Wars something pop culture that feels really familiar.
