X Points = Ruined races

Does anyone else think that ZPoints are ruining the racing?

As a lowly Cat D (gusting lower echelons on Cat C) - how am I supposed to race competitively and with fun when racing Cat B riders?

Recents races have shown that I am working F’ing hard for lowly positions, which ruins it as I simply can’t compete against much stronger (lighter!) riders!

Zwift - just revert to the simple categories.

My main concerns about ZRS are that riders don’t get promoted quickly enough for good results, and riders who set new 5 min PRs move to a score that is reduced by 15% from where they would otherwise start out with the same power. There are other things that could make it better but those would help a lot. Fighting hard for poor results can also happen when you are at the lower end of a score range for your starting pen, but that’s not a new development with racing score.

I note that in your race yesterday in the 180-350 score range, you finished 2nd out of 28, which is what I would expect for a rider at the top end of the range. Majority of participants finished 2+ minutes behind you. Now with a score of 355 you move to the bottom of the next pen. I expect that will be a hard ride for you but that’s the way it goes. I’m assuming your comment relates to the Evo race from July 29 where you were at the bottom of the 350-520 range so a low result is what I would expect from that.

Looks like Zwift is using those again for the ITT races they organise.

But what makes you think it will be better if they do it for all races. There was a reason a lot of people wanted ZRS. That it didnt turn out like they all hoped for is another thing.

Should the physics be tweaked to because light riders are too fast? :cowboy_hat_face:

Paul’s reply is a good one - when you get moved up a grade that’s the way it is, you are going to struggle against faster riders, and they may br either lighter or bigger and more powerful.

Not ruining the racing, but ZRS hasn’t done much to help.

In the old categories the lighter riders often couldn’t compete with heavy riders, unless they were so light that they were under the watt floor.

This does seem to be the approach they’re taking. TT Club has changed back, ZRL is still using the old system.

Zwift - if you’re going to use pace group categories, can you at least put some effort into making them more fair. Use the ZRS seed formula instead of w/kg and a watt floor. Use the FTP formula from The Grade instead of zFTP. zFTP uses a model that relies on good data, you’re meant to follow a testing protocol to record the maximal efforts.

Please move away from w/kg - it’s a very basic metric that was easy for users to look at 10 years ago. It was never good. You can do better.

ZRS now has 1 foot in the grave. @Tom_Shelton giving that itt are back to W/kg.
