Yep, that’s the feedback we’ve been getting from the Zwift Runners group on Facebook. Thanks for your input!
I understand it’s for testing purposes but the 2.15 W/kg pace of Daniela is amazing. A new 2.0 pace will increase the gap to Coco back to 0.5. Again, I know it’s very early but if the 2.0 stays I’d suggest a 2.25 or something to bridge the currently bridged gap ![]()
Hey Stef,
We’re trying to limit the number of Pace Partners, to save too much scrolling on the menu.
The change to 2.0 is only temporary.
Fair enough :), I’ll go with the narrative that Daniela has a slight cold.
that would be great ![]()
Note though, if my math is right, Coco at 65kg and 2.5wkg is putting out 163 watts. Daniela at 75kg and 2.15 wkg, is at 161 watts. Seems selecting between the 2 would be more based on which weight profile you’d be happier with on hills?
Maybe I should try it again soon but previously I hovered around 190-200 with Coco but only 170 recently with Daniela. Will have to check if my drafting has become better though. But if it remains the same way, Coco for me is a threshold ride which is too much for what I want to do.
Could be if route had some hills. Also, not sure it’s been said what Coco’s in-game height is, she could be a decent amount shorter than you which would have some impact.
Don’t know if this issue has come up before with pace partners: about mid-way through a 100 mile ride with Brevet today (my first pace partner century), a female avatar on ZPower (no heart rate) showed up with a TT bike, riding roughly 5.5W/kg on the front of the group. The pace seemed to increase — for me the 40km the TT rider was present my power was 10-15W higher and HR shot up 20 bpm as “she” sort of became the new pace partner with Brevet able to hold that pace in the draft. Has this issue of sort of fake efforts trolling the pace partner bunch come up before, or was I just grumpy and tired from the miles?
If you were to drag an hour rolling window on the analysis page of the Strava activity, you’d seem my power go from ~218 to 232 and back to 218…and that 232 window corresponds to roughly the hour the TT bike was sitting at the front.
It’s possible for this to happen as those drafting would be drafting would be drafting a higher pace. Generally wouldn’t happen with a larger group.
Surely the PP’s pace is totally independent of any riders in or around the group?
The pace of the group in general may have picked-up (as they were tempted to keep pace with the TTer) but not the pace of the PP?
I would have thought that had you “shadowed” the PP during this time, your power and HR wouldn’t have changed significantly (could be wrong)?
I’m going to double check this, but if the Pace Partner’s didn’t get any draft, they would get dropped by the group constantly.
Imagine trying to do a PP ride on a TT bike.
Done that…once ![]()
Thought they were still getting draft - this evening I wanted a reasonably consistent ride and was not-so-seriously cursing the odd rider jumping in front of Brevet pushing the pace up. Not what I needed as covid recovery ride so more noticeable than I would normally care about.
I don’t think riders in front of the bots push the pace up that much if at all. I’ve never noticed it w/any of the bots. For example, today I did over an hour w/Coco (2.5w/kg). It was a larger than normal bunch and Coco was never at the front. My avg in the bunch was 2.36w/kg.
Yeah they do, most obvious place to spot the group pace increase is into a sprint or end of a segment… As those who want to go for a time pick up the pace everyone in the group needs to raise their pace aswell.
Going through the Sprint Arch in fuego flats you can see & feel the pace drop off as everyone slows.
I was referring to the overall pace in general. It was still less than advertised 2.5w/kg.
You are right about the group pace increase for the sprint, but while most of the group as a whole will increase to go for the sprint and/or chase those that are sprinting, I’m curious as to how much Coco actually increases. I’ll have to pay attention to this tomorrow. My memory says part of the group goes faster stringing it out or dropping Coco, then slows for Coco while Coco is steady
vs Coco speeding up beyond 2.5w/kg.
Request…Keep the routes closer to 20k. I rode with D Drops and the 7.8k route got very monotonous.
I try to mix them up but there’s only so many in Makuri that are suitable (I try to avoid partially gravel ones).
Thanks for checking on it! The combination of female avatar, TT bike, and ZPower @ 5.5W/kg going 45kph at the front of the PP group seemed like a pretty obvious troll to me, and the pace and effort was definitely higher.
The other thing regarding the size of the group…the group was fairly large at that point, maybe 30 riders? It seemed like the larger number of riders actually helped keep the pace elevated because there were more people able to contribute to keeping pace with the TT bike.
