I have a brand new Wahoo Snap connected via Bluetooth to my MacBook Pro running Zwift. The power spikes like crazy even though my cadence is super steady, see the graphs in the screenshot linked below. This was from today’s Tour de Zwift group ride. I did a spin down, and also did the advanced/factory spin down and this still happens. Is this normal? I’m coming from a dumb trainer and speed/cadence sensor in the past, so this was a shock to me.
If I remember correctly, there is a power smoothing option within the Wahoo app.
Power up your kickr snap, open the wahoo app, tap on the trainer icon and look within that section.
ERG Mode Power Smoothing: this setting enables smoothing reported power to eliminate small inconsistencies in pedal strokes, making power graphs appear less erratic. Enabling is a personal preference, will not impact overall trainer functionality, and not required.
Hi @garyc, Welcome to the Forum.
Make sure your wheel is inflated to the tire specification (100psi). Do you use a Trainer tire?
Tighten the resistance unit roller so that it is firm to the wheel.
It also look like you have some Bluetooth dropouts, see that there is not other Bluetooth devices in the room.
If it is only the HR monitor, it may be time for a new battery.
Hi there, I’m having the exact same issue with the Snap.
Everything is fine while in ERG mode but as soon as I’m in free mode the power does look exactly like this. This makes it impossible to race.
Looks like a lot of person are blaming the Bluetooth connection but I tried a lot of different things and it’s the same. Even with the phone literally 10 cm away from the Snap.
Spin down + warmup does nothing.
Hopefully this can fixed at some point!
That’s normal, as far as I know and have seen, between my own snap and an external power meter.
You will get an erratic power display in free mode. There is a 3sec power smooth option in the settings on Zwift. But what you are seeing, is just as you would, if you had a power meter on your bike out on the road.
My tire is inflated to 110psi, Kickr knob is turned 2 full turns, did spin down, on regular tires. I bought an ANT dongle and a USB extension cord coming in 3 days. Going to report back here to see if switching from Bluetooth to ANT will make any difference.
I also did turn on 3 sec power smooth in Zwift, as well as ERG smoothing in Wahoo app.
It’s fixed! I got an ANT dongle and a 3m extension cable, placed the ANT 1cm away from the flywheel of the Wahoo Snap. Power is so much smoother and I can do structured workout without Zwift complaining I’m over and under power every second.
