Wahoo Kickr Shift and Race mode?

Hi

I’m considering making the move from a Kick V5 to the Kickr Bike Shift.

I’m currently investigating if the Shift will at some point in time get Race Mode. It is not really a deal breaker, but I do like racing, and it may the only thing standing between and going pro (besides, life and age and all kinds of things).

It may be because of differences in how power is calculated, or something, but it just seems a bit odd to not have this on a fairly recent piece of tech (also - no clue if this is due to Wahoo or Zwift).

Thanks for reading.

If the hardware can do it, it’s up to Wahoo to implement it in the firmware. I haven’t heard anything about whether they can or will do it. All the other trainers from Wahoo that support 10Hz transmission depend on Direct Connect via WiFi or Ethernet, and the SHIFT does support Direct Connect, so… maybe?

I did asked Wahoo about race mode for Kickr Bike Shift and this was there anwser:
This feature is only available on the KICKR BIKE V2.
Due to hardware differences, this feature cannot be made available for the KICKR BIKE SHIFT.

This is a bit disappointing. I was hoping that the wi-fi connection would allow Race Mode at some near point in time.
Back to the drawing board. It shouldn’t be a deal breaker, but it sort of makes the Shift feel a bit dated. Then again - I am managing fairly well, at least before ZRS wreaked havoc on racing.

Sorry - it is clearly a dealbreaker for me.

I was looking to upgrade from a Kickr V5 to the Shift bike. But now I will be keeping my Kickr V5 until Wahoo update the Shift or make a new bike.
Too bad - I really feel You (Wahoo) are really losing it - and the competitors a getting better and better.

I am deeply disappointed by this.

how big of a difference is race mode? i’ll be getting jet black victory here soon with race mode, and i was currently using tacx neo which ive been told is awful for racing. can someone fill me in why that is?

So, the 449 JetBlack trainer supports it but not an expensive Wahoo bike? I have been less than impressed by Wahoo lately and this is surely not helping.

It will make the V2 a harder sell if the shift get’s the feature - maybe that’s why they won’t implement it.
