I’ve been a Zwift fan for a few years and enjoy the rides. However, after logging over 21,000 miles I’ve “seen it all” and am considering moving on.
I’m hoping that Zwift will soon let riders put in just Distance/Elevation criteria for the ride and have Zwift create a random route based on that. I’m no programmer but it seems like it should not be that hard to implement - no?
Example:
Zwift, please create a random Route based on this criterion:
Route Distance: 20 miles (or Kilometers)
Elevation: 1500 feet (or Meters)
This would allow Users to create an unlimited variety of Routes - and Zwift would not need to do anything other than the program modifications to facilitate the feature. I’m not looking to save any of the random routes created.
PS - I’ve read about third party tools/programs that allow you to program custom routes. To complicated / cumbersome for me - and I’m using an iPad. I’d prefer it be native in Zwift.
I have no doubt that Zwift remains the best all-around indoor training app. However, like all current platforms, it feels too rigid and predictable. Predefined structures, limited personalization, and repetitive workouts can make engagement fade over time. Pacing is generic, and the experience lacks real dynamic adaptation. While multiplayer modes exist, social interaction often feels shallow, and these days, people are increasingly preferring casual AI-driven engagement over forced human interaction.
The next evolution in indoor training will likely be AI-driven. AI can deliver hyper-personalized workouts, dynamically adjusting pacing, routes, and challenges in real time based on an individual rider’s fitness level, goals, and even mood. The legacy code behind apps like Zwift won’t allow for this level of customization—but it’s only a matter of time before a new platform emerges, leveraging AI to make indoor training more immersive, adaptive, and engaging.
Part of the reason Zwift rotates worlds is to keep them busy, the social aspect seems to be what Zwift feels is their secret sauce, so a feature that puts everyone in their own custom routes is not something I would imagine would be high on their priority list unless they start bleeding users because of it.
I have a set of events I’ve signed up for, and I’d personally like a procedurally generated route that mimicked those events, so I’d love that ability, I just have a hard time seeing Zwift doing this since they don’t even keep the ability to select past climbing portals they’ve released unless they are on rotation.
