Turn off escalators for races

Turn them off for races the New escalators.

whoever came up with that idea should be demoted back to drawing trees to begin with.

Why turn them off?

I don’t get it. The elevators assist riders going up a very steep slope. So instead of the escalator Zwift could have put in a shorter steep slope for the same effect - would that have been a problem too, a shorter, steep but unassisted, slope?

Why does it hurt racers? What am I missing?

Seems like it’s just boost mode for a hill

I wouldn’t even call it a boost, it doesn’t make you go faster than you already are, in fact you can slow down going up it if you stop pedalling (I was able to get dropped from the group I was in going up the escalator by not pedalling while they all hammered up it).

I rode The Greenway yesterday, and every time my group approached the escalators, my avatar was pushed out to the left, off the visuals of the escalator.
I have no idea if that negated the escalator effect or not, since it happened every time.

Can I have a escalater up Ven-Top than please.

I think it is funny to have the escalators. It is different and doesn’t really effect much if everyone just keeping riding like they would without them.

Those very steep sections would be more of a challenge without the boost mode and would spice up the races a lot. Can we say it would “make racing more exciting™”?

For non races okay to leave them.

@Chris_D9 it make racing way more fun exciting place group go bang start some fireworks in game.

I think the escalators are fine for group rides, but perhaps there should be an on/off toggle that race organizers can use for individual events.

Looks like just a cool graphic to me with no actual rider benefit. I noticed that large parts of that ride was more GPU intensive than anything else I have ridden in the last 3 years however, my frame rate dropped to 8 fps and it became noticeably jerky. It potentially will cause people using really old setup or gear really not designed for Zwift to crash.

Have you tried going up a normal 19% gradient and then these escalator equipped 19%?

What differences do you find?

Wouldn’t know I’m heavy, saw it looked pretty steep in the HUD so hit 800W on the way up or I would have probably have come to a stop. Didn’t know it was 19% sorry, not done that sort of gradient before the rest of Zwift is what about 14% tops ?

Basically without those escalator devices you would be really crawling up there.

Rest of Zwift, you can find some 25% in parts of climb portal routes.

These escalators could be put on other routes as well for races, such as on volcano climb or any races with climb portions. I would guess that quite a few riders would be very pleased with that. :winking_face_with_tongue:

Which Portal climb had that?? And does the real road have that 42%… I guess that was with the multiplier used to get more elevation (rather than 100%).

It is in the Rocacorba climb. this part is in a steep corner and only about 5 meters, but I saw it going up and up and up and this was the highest I saw and could make a screenshot of.

I rode The Greenway yesterday and each time in the subway, the frame rate dropped to ~40 FPS on my MacMini M2 with only around 25-30 other riders in my pack.

I respectfully disagree, I think is different and fun. Also, think that Zwift has more pressing issues on their hands than changing this, like fixing their ZRS system.
