This is ridiculous. The dust hasn’t even settled after the last Levels revamp.
Just add more levels.

Levels are just levels, they dont really have much importance other than pride (speaking for the upper levels not the lower ones). To make any of this really matter, I’d love to see more interesting features be connected to levels. I thought you guys were on track to do this when you starting adding level requirements for certain routes like AdZ, but that seems to have faded. If you had levels couple with other features like routes, worlds, challenges (yeah bring those back), etc, then there would be actual value added by leveling up. Yes, you have some added tiny bonuses like socks and hats, and to some extent things in the garage, but if, for example, you needed to be level 40 to ride the AdZ, and level 60 for Ven-top, level 70 to do a Pacific Coast trip down North and South America, and maybe level 100 has a secret race or world, then the motivation would be there. Right now, it’s just arguing about pride on who is at what level. Let me know when features are linked to levels and I’ll push to achieve them like I did when I started Zwifting 6 years ago and wanted to reach level 10 to ride a new route!

I think that sums things up nicely, I’m on level 37 (I had to look that up), my incentive for using zwift is to stay fit and get some miles in over the winter months when its not nice enough to ride outdoors, and have no real idea or care about how many points of whatever flavour (XP, drops, slices of pizza) I need to get the next level
Totally agree Zwift has been making this over and over again . First they make a change and then they revert it back and it has happened multiple times (rolling resistance on gravel, pack dynamics 4.1,racing score …). I have said it multiple times they should test the features with the more experience guys like the ones that rode on beta days and then if everything goes well release it. Also with this changes i think they are trying to hide the lack of development of the platform since october last year when the indoor season started.
Not particularly happy the second ride streak bonus has been removed. With the summer around the corner in the northern hemisphere that would kill any motivation for a second Zwift ride of the week. Why not keep the second streak but increase the minimum distance from 2 to 10km or something? Or less XP for the first ride and more for the second?
If Zwift don’t know what to do with leveling up or down
Do a reset
All will be at zero to start again with the new system
A radical move do swift have the bottle to do this upsetting many
Game on
Maybe some of these folk are at level 100 because they do a huge amount of riding and very little or no participation in forums trying to stir up controversy.
Some food for thought before you continue further.
I’m at 1.5m XP. And was at nearly a million before all these convoluted level adjustments and resets occurred.
Too much messing about with resets and adjustments. More effort might be nice with new bikes and Watopia further expansions.
I don’t think its right to keep changing the system, there was 25 levels when I joined Zwift, then 30, then 50 then 60 then 100 and now you have changed the XP how many times, why dont you look at what the likes of Call of Duty etc do. Please stick to the current system, no need to change unless you are adding more levels.
I think this new system is correcting the (in my opinion) incorrectly implemented current level 100 Had this immediately followed the maximum level being 60 it would have been a lot better.
the 25 then 50 then 60 were just adding levels on top of the previous total which was fine (although still don’t know why there needs to be a top level?) but the current level 100 added more levels but reduced the total to get to the top level which just made zero sense.
Now level 100 is higher than level 60 used to be, the levels work in a more linear way (the amount of XP to get to the next level will be the same or higher than the previous one which wasn’t the case for 1 to 60) and each level is a reachable distance from the last with a reasonable level of riding.
Overall I think this new system is good the problem is people got used to the old (and worse) level 100 system and now the goal posts have been moved to make 100 seem miles off for a lot of people.
I can see why people are annoyed but hopefully things will settle down soon and we can all worry about having too many socks again!
Will the Ride Report still show the current rider XP as it does currently ?
As the new screen mockup omits this data, just showing the level and XP to next level.
I agree we wanted it to be more of a challenge to get to level 100. BUT there are now people at level 100 that did halve the work to get to 100.
Unfortunately, the nonsensical things from the past are still having an effect. There was no sensible or logical overall concept for the levels. I see it like this: 1) The system is unfair overall. 2) It is mathematically wrong because it is not linear. 3) XP banked = stolen. 4) The unfairness has a demotivating effect. 5) The loyal long term users of Zwift are continually being cheated. 6) There is a lack of a simple, logical and mathematically comprehensible concept for the future after level 100. In addition, Zwift should think about something that users will find appropriate when they have been with the game for ten years. I’m thinking of all beta users and those who have been loyal customers for many years. Zwift should think about this at the management level or the next disaster is inevitable.
And these are the ones that are being the most vocal about these changes being for the best. Because it wort affect them.
Like someone previously said why not keep the current system the way it is and implement the change for a future Level 101-150 update. Surely creating a bunch of new hats and socks cant be THAT hard for zwift to implement? It’s not like they are giving us new frames or wheel sets.
I’m out - enjoy the discussion
Can I ask that before the change comes into force, can I (everyone) at least be fast-forwarded to where all my banked XP should put me in the current system?
That way it won’t feel quite as much like a punch in the face as a reward for 9 years on the platform.
i.e. my “Rider Score” is 453,860, which is good for level 87 in the current system (my actual in-game level is 53 as I am on a LV47
LV99 “discounted” track).
I don’t mind if that means you also have to reset my rider score to whatever level 87 is in the new (upcoming) system. (Make it an option, obviously; some people will prefer the grind.)
Personally, I like the bonus XP being awarded for 2 rides per week.
I very much disagree that levelling is “too fast” now. Since these changes came into force 4 months ago, I’ve gained 6 levels. That doesn’t feel too fast to me at all.
It feels like the levels are being tweaked to suit “the 1%” in Zwift terms, to the detriment of people who ride less frequently and face a mountain to progress.
Yes, that will give current level 100 riders something to work on and make a fair system.
@evan-zwift Question what will happen when you go to max 150 levels, there are now people banking XP already, where others have to work to a higher XP level to get to level 100?
I only see two options to make this fair for everyone :
1 - Either leave it as it is, add new levels and make them much harder after level 100 and put a stop to people hoarding xp when they are at the top level. Give them something else so you dont get into fast double xp troubles again.
2 - do the change now but adjust the levels for everyone to the new levels and xp required. Yes, we will all drop a few levels but we would all have to do the same. And not have people who made 100 already had it much easier than all others.
They should stop with the banking all together. You get to level 100 good but thats it for xp. No more gathering or banking.
It only causes problems.
Plenty of other ways zwift could make a new challenge for people on the max level. As simple as a little badge to mark their achievement and let them start again from 1.
