Streak and XP Leveling Adjustments [April 2024]

I’m not sure what I like better, a rebrand of ZI or you just simply using that as your rider name in zwift!

I agree with Eric’s statements. Just remember that the XP currency should be in a reasonable relation to kilometers ridden/elevation gained. In recent years, the exchange rate for XPs has become somewhat inflationary in terms of gamification. With people starting a session at any hour during the Tour of Watopia to benefit from the Double XP, the 10% chance of a 250XP bonus in the Climb Portal, etc. All of that is fine, but remember how hard it was to earn XPs in the past without the Robopacer and Climb Portal. In the future, the XP chase shouldn’t be unnecessarily simplified further. Perhaps instead, the Drops could be promoted more, which can be used to unlock things like paint jobs for the bikes, etc.

I agree with the prestige system. 100 max level, everyone gets to the other they should be at she just go round again and collect stars.

What is nuts is that there are users now on level 100 with much less xp than I’ve accumulated over my career and now it’s just got even harder for me to get to 100. I’m not going to cry about achieving levels but what I really find frustrating is the constant moving of goalposts that penalise some users, benefits others and doesn’t create a fair level playing field.
Just get rid of banked xp, put everyone at the correct level, keep levels moving or the prestige suggestion and if new unlocks are released for milestones you can give these to people retrospectively if they have already attained that level. At least then EVERYONE will be treated equally, finally.

What about something really really controversial and radical, like expanding some of the smaller worlds?

Like Innsbruck which could easily get a few more hundred kilometres of roads from real life and maybe even more if you expanded it down to real life town of Sterzing.

And then never ever do any schemes to change drops or XP once this current storm has been solved.

When I pointed that out I was told by someone that banked XP was making the game fun and that I didn’t understand about playing games.

Certainly looks like lots of fun in this discussion topic.

For me this falls over as I reckon I will hit Level 94 with 811,289 XP (“Rider Score”).

That’s what it takes to get level 100 for a new Zwifter; but I won’t “prestige” until I actually hit level 100 - at which point I’ll have 907,289 XP by my calculations.

This is based on me having 483,238 XP today on level 59. I’m being “accelerated” to level 94 according to the pause menu, so a 20% discount (I presume) per level until then; and normal levelling for levels 95-100 (which I believe is another 96,000 total XP).

Maybe I’m wrong, and when I hit level 94 the system will say “hey, you actually have enough XP for Level 100, let’s put you on that!”, but I doubt it.

Of course “infinite” levels suffer from the same thing, but for a prestige system to be reasonable, it needs to accurately reflect everyone’s time. That star against someone’s name has to mean the same thing no matter when they attained it.

Before the big 500,000XP reset (which is where these problems started), I was stuck at level 50 limit and had 832,000XP back then at that time, so I was at higher XP and lower level than you being on level 59 with 483,000XP.

And you’d hit supposedly level 94 with less XP than I had at level 50.

I guess this just proves your point about the XP and levels not reflecting everyone’s time.

Yes. And it’s not an unsolvable problem. I’m more than happy to see those who had more XP than me be placed where they should be too, of course.

Just give us what we’ve earnt - especially if that means prestige levels for some people. Heck, some people have probably earnt 5 or more gold stars by now. If I saw Zwifters riding around with 5 stars adorning their name in Riders Nearby, that would be awesome.

I’m not asking for more than I’ve earnt; but I do begrudge being pegged below that point.

I get that some people don’t care about XP or levels; but this is a thing that really annoys me. I’m never going to stop banging on about it until Zwift fix their mess.

That’s why I included putting everyone at their proper level (based on career XP) right away. Do away with the confusing accelerated leveling, give everyone what they’ve earned, then have accurate ongoing infinite levels or prestige moving forward.

i love the prestige mode in COD, i know all about that. @Eric_Schlange_ZwftIn

I agree and that’s very welcome to see; I’ve asked for this several times too but of course you have a higher profile, so words likely carry more weight.

IMO that should be addressed before any prestige system or more levels. Mainly because it affects more Zwifters, will be simpler to implement and would salve more immediate pain.

Ideally, presented as a one-time choice to fast-forward or to do it the long way, because there will of course be some people who do want to do that.

Strangely, I have never paid any attention to XP or banked XP - where do you even find it?

Perhaps both, when you reach say 1.5m XP or a particular level say 150 or 200 you get stars.

Maybe even virtual medals of different types and status. That would be a bit cringeworthy but maybe something.

You’ve got the high profile so whatever you say they might listen to, the rest of us they wouldn’t care one bit, at least that’s how it seems when the product folk seem to take our feedback then do the opposite.

hit the menu screen you will see the level progress bar with current earned xp. Depending on your avatar icon being flat or doing a wheelie with arrows will indicate if you are on accelerated xp.

Personally i’m ok with the current system and quite like the accelerated XP rather than jumping straight to the level earned but to please everyone maybe giving the option to jump to level earned straight away could be done.

The idea of a million xp for 100 levels also sounds quite nice as well.

I suspect he knows that.

oh maybe yeah didn’t pay attention to who the poster was

This is the bit I don’t get. Having a counter/levels is a bit of gaming but I don’t really care what other folk have achieved, especially if it’s just because they’ve been in the game longer, or their only interest in life is in riding in a trainer multiple hours every day. If this proposed prestige level was invisible to other riders would it suddenly lose all value?

Cheers - I didnt know about the wheelie being flat or accelerated XP.

I never actually pay attention to the final screens so was aware of level not of XP.

Thanks @Chris_D9 for the comment, but no I didnt hence the question. Any issues with me asking a question as it appears you do?

Was there a post stating that after the last update, the bicycle on the progress bar on the menu page is no longer riding a wheelie even though we are still on accelerated schedule?
I have 710,000 XP but I’m just under lvl 75.
I should be accelerated to somewhere over 90.

I don’t appreciate Zwift spying on me and taking away the one time I can ride a wheelie .

It’s a bug (or at least a weird UI decision): From Zwift Insider:
“The graphical indicators for accelerated leveling were inexplicably removed for your current level, prompting Zwifters to think their acceleration was gone. (The acceleration is still there. Oddly enough, it seems those indicators return once you level up.)”

Having never looked at it before, I’m level 68 boosted to level 95.

I have 648k.

If i understand that right, I should be level 95 in the old system? Glad I didn’t pay much attention to it now.
