Streak and XP Leveling Adjustments [April 2024]

I know I have been quite outspoken and annoyed about the changes.
Maybe Plan C is what is best for Zwift.
I’m over the disappointment now.
I’m just leveling up as best as I can before May.
That is all I can control for now.
I always felt Plan A (that took forever to hit 50) was too tough.
It took me a year to reach 60 before plan B made level 100 too easy.
Eventually, I will hit 100 and then I won’t care about this thread any more.

OK, so as a disclaimer, I didn’t read all the comments, and I also am not too fussed about levels, but I like the level system as it’s a motivator for many - sometimes myself! But one thing that seems quite obvious is that this is absolutely not the right way to go about it.

To me it sounds like the problem to be solved is having a system that still awards “prestige” to those who reach maximum level, and the previous adjustment reduced that prestige and made it attainable to many more. In a perfect world, the 100 levels equalling 1,000,000 or whatever it was xp sounds good, but undoing what has been done is of course a major issue as the prestige is gone with those who already hit level 100.

Also new levels means needing new things to award for those levels.

I think a good balance would be:

  • Keep getting to level 100 as is.
  • Either have just 4 more levels of an insane 100,000 xp each. That way, someone at level 101 has the prestige of getting there.
  • create a bronze, silver, gold and “shimmery platinum trophy style” jersey for each level 101, 102, 103, 104. This should be very quick for the zwift design team.

OR

Just have level 101, which repeats every 100,000 xp and awards a new jersey each time through. When the time comes to add, for example, 50 more levels, scrap this level and move it to level 151 with a new set of similar jerseys.

Just some thoughts on a plate.

Wow, congratulations to finish up level 100 soon. At the beginning I couldn’t wait to level up, cause there was no dropshop and the only way to get different equipment was by hitting another level.
With bringing in the drop shop, leveling up didn’t mean so much to me anymore.
Was a nice thing that I would accumulate.
And yes after some time on Zwift… even the drop shop wasn’t or is as important, because I now got sooo many drops, but as I have the things for my avatar already, I won’t spend them. Still enjoy doing an event collecting a cap, shoes etc… unfortunately never wheels nor bikes.
Got my squirrel cap, which perfectly fits to my two front teeth :joy:

Cheers!
Squirral Cap are the stand out level up item, ok maybe the level 100 socks as they gift 2XP with the ride on, plus badge 50XP.
We’re all on our own journeys, the key thing with Zwift (in this case) is to find what gets you on the bike, what makes you enjoy the platform and do that.
Rule of thumb, more you ride, better you’ll get
We are not here to validate anyone elses choices, they for sure won’t validate ours !!

Hard disagree. I’d pay Zwift actual money to have the freedom to not have to see people wearing that stupid-ass thing.

{fires up Zwift to deck out avatar in the full Dino Power cap, kit, socks and shoes. Glorious!}

maybe the 1,000,000 XP unlock should let you change the kit/avatars of other riders!

I agree I don’t like them, it look like Devil horns.

I’m changing to the squirrel cap today.

Will keep it to level 104. To be honest few of the unlocks were particularly interesting and I skipped that cap as well.

I’m putting mine back on !
took it off for the 1st April

I think I’ve read through all the posts (300+ at this point?), and it seems like the vast majority is either against this proposed change, or doesn’t care much about leveling. I would hope Zwift would give more weight to the feedback from those who are motivated by levels.

I would just like to echo some of other sentiments, and perhaps add a bit of my own.

Don’t change the leveling system up to level 100.

Add a bunch more levels–at least up to 200, but probably higher (500?).

Make the higher levels progressively harder, but only incrementally so.

It’s not necessary to have gear unlocks for every level above 100. Even just something to unlock every 5 or 10 levels would suffice.

Place everyone on the level they should be based on XP accumulated. It makes no sense for some people with significantly less experience than others to be a higher level.

Again–the leveling system and any changes to it should cater to those for whom it is a motivator–and there are many for whom it is an important aspect of the program. It is immaterial if there are other who are not motivated by it and find it unimportant. They can just ignore this whole conversation.

I’ve been on Zwift since 2018 I believe, and it’s been an important part of my continued fitness journey. So thanks for creating such an amazing platform for cycling, and I hope it continues to grow and improve!

As someone who doesn’t care much about levels especially now that they’re so fast, I think you’re right. I’m honestly surprised at the level of concern people have for this and those people have had a lot of good ideas. I think the best of the ideas are “No change from existing” and “go straight to whatever your XP would have you at on the new scale.”

The proposed scale would’ve been great had it been implemented a few months ago, but there’s a lot of animosity towards it that I certainly didn’t expect to see.

You can change all you want. But what you need to do it place people in a calculated level based on the requirements, every time you change the XP ladder.
It’s not fair for people with eg. 1,5m XP on the very old ladder to only be level 60, while a new zwifter would be lvl 100 after putting less xp than that. It’s also not fair to ease on the level requirements like you did just before christmas and now your are tightening up. That means a lot of people got more level they deserved, looking at the proposed changes. So as I said, change peoples level based on the XP they have. Some will go up and some will go down. Unlocks they shouldn’t have, if they go down in level, should be kept.

Is very simple. The are so many different opinions here. Rather than Zwift decide, give people the choice.

Advance to correct level without going through leveling up
Stay on current leveling system
Go on new leveling system being implemented in May

Very easy to give every rider a choice.

I like this idea a lot! I’m one of the haters of the streak screen and, while I’m thrilled not to have to look at it every time I Zwift, a notification in-game would be MUCH better. Besides leveling up way too fast to begin with, the last FIVE times I’ve leveled up have been after an actual ride, ON the streak screen bc of the bonus XP :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: What’s the point of achievements if they don’t occur in-game :woman_shrugging:

On my way to 1.6M XP and just made it to L90.
I would choose [] Bump me up, Zwifty! and go straight to whichever level my XP’s are worth.

I heard about the proposed changes a couple weeks ago and I have been trying to level up as much as possible before the changes. However, my main motivation is increasing my cycling performance. FTP, VO2 max etc. I have really enjoyed the training sessions and have selected routes to earn badges while training.

Same here. Doing my best to train and level up. Hope to hit 99 by April 30.

I would like to see a super bonus every 500,000.
Still want a Tron helmet and white Campy disc wheels.

If you can get a short climb portal route, simply do as many laps of that as possible and hope you get favourable big XP bonuses at each sector. Sometimes it is a bit stingy.

Willunga hill is probably the best one, fairly short and steady gradient so you can coast down it easily.

Me too. April 2030, that is.
