Query about how racing works now, the winner and 2nd place in cat D event for this race both have a racing score absolutely miles above the upper limit for this cat (and therefore easily won), how did these people even register for the event?

It is fine. Just stalking his activity feed out of curiosity, the winner has recently been doing some workouts, but not smashed anything in the 4 to 6 minute range.
He did exactly that in this race, hence the big bump in ZRS.

does beg the question how did they have the scores they had, maybe they hadn’t raced before
this, or it has been a very very long time since they have raced and the decay set in to lower their score. This is a constant issue with these races, new people come in and are not scored properly due to never really putting in a full gas effort, or new to racing, or its been a really long time and decay has lowered their score.
In fairness I didn’t race/ ride for ages and my standard has slipped from at one point racing in the basement of B races to where I am now at the upper end of D, feels like it’s been about right/ well judged by the system
The winner of this race was operating at the upper end of cat C races about 6 months ago, which I guess means the score degrades maybe quicker than it should.
On balance it seems to me to be a bit better than the old system I raced under, but still not perfect
no system is perfect, there will always be outliers and someone at the top and bottom of any category.
How on earth do you get a score change of 134 points? I think the most I’ve managed is about 6.
By setting a new 5 min PB and getting a new seed score
Exactly why it didn’t occur to me that their scores were low enough to enter pre race
It’d be great if the results screen had an icon to show that there’d been a power-based score increase.
There used to be the floor increase icon but since they changed it to move to the seed score this icon doesn’t get triggered.
