On Aug 31@ 1:30 PM I rode D class in the Zwift Academy 2024 - race 1. I finished 9th out of 26.
When i checked my racing score it dropped from 162 to 157. When i checked the stats on Zwiftpower #1 was not in my event, #2 finished in 17th place, #3 finished in 18th place, #4 finished in 13th place, #5 finished in 24th place, #6 finished in 23rd place, #7 finished in 4th place, #8 finished in 26th place, #9 finished in 15th place, #10 finished in 11th place, #11 finished in 22nd place, #13 was not in the event, #14 finished in 2nd place, #15 finished in 1st place, #16 finished in 16th place, #17 finished in 5th place. The data is skewed. The errors suggest a broader review should be implemented. This makes anything other than a personal best somewhat invalid. I will keep on riding…
ZwiftPower can’t handle time based races
Only your power based seeding score for Racing Score can change doing any Zwift activity outside of the Zwift Labs Racing Score events.
Racing Score changes from finishing position currently only come from Zwift Labs events.
That sounds like it would make sense, but…
Take a look at the E cat results on Zwift and ZP from the recent HERD Beginners CatE
Using the Zwift result as reference, how is the #6 and Last place finishers’ positive RS movement explained? ie. considering the RS of those riders surrounding these characters in the results. For #6, certainly from raw watts perspective (not w/kg) I can’t understand the score looking at their power curves.

The arrow with the line under it means their score went up due to an increase in their power based score floor.
In that race 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th all have the same icon in the results.
Last place getting an increase is most likely because of DNFs. The racing score adjustments after the race are nonsense, you need to wait 12 hours for them to be calculated correctly.
Ok, but 6th place finisher, while having an increase in their 10minute power in that race, only put out a raw 170 watts at 10 minutes. It’s been said that power seeding is based on watts and Not w/kg. Plenty of riders, even the last placed finisher, have a higher 10 minute watts (if not w/kg).
The last placed finisher’s power curve for this event is worse than his 90-day. So how did his score move upward, when the 3 immediate riders that finished before him, had their scores move downward?
The score is definitely not based only on raw watts. It’s most likely based on compound score, which is watts multiplied by w/kg. It would work out something like (30s watts*10 min watts)/kg.
Last place is currently getting an increase because there were DNF’s. The pen shows 16 entries but only 12 in the results. This will get resolved when the scores get recalculated, which happens 12 hours after the event.
I don’t know why zwift designed a system with such an obvious flaw that leads to so much confusion. But this is all still in beta so let’s hope it gets fixed in the production release.
Most likely Score Decay over a few days changed his ZRS.
My score is droping around 0.25 per day
Well it’s been almost 18 hours now and last place is still showing an increase. Maybe it’s not just a lag, maybe it’s straight up broken.
Weird.
Looks like very small race score movements in Cat E.
With only an up arrow and down arrow to play with I wonder how Zwift show a movement of 107 to 107 ?
lots of things are obvious in retrospect though, to be fair. like we can sit on these forums all day, which we more or less do, and point out a detail here and there out in theory but until its shown to be true then there’s no real example to study
just to get on on @Lee_H 's nerves because i gotta get my kicks somehow… “that’s why they test”
Read the FAQ
“We then normalize the power by weight and make further adjustments based on our analysis to ensure the score is fair across various weights and performance levels.”
I’d suggest that the score changes from race results being confusing, but typically making more sense once they’ve been recalculated ~12 hours later, has been widely shown to be true
well, yeah. i’m not saying anyone likes that. probably like 4 times i’ve tried to report what i assumed was a bug myself only for the numbers to change overnight anyway. i dont think that is the intended design, though
Hello-
Today I completed the first Zwift Academy race and I placed second in my category, but according to ZP, I finished 11th. I don’t understand the difference. As a result, my racing score didn’t change as a result (in fact it may have decreased) Please help me understand this. Thank you!
(Edit: ZwiftPower ranking is affected by this but racing score is not. Those are separate things)
Thank you for this; I meant Zwift power ranking; sorry I misworded the issue.
Also, looking at the ZwiftRacing website, those that didn’t go as far seemed to have gotten large boosts and those that made it further got large demotions. The posted results seem flipped relative to how far each rider got.
Yes- my score decreased after a second place finish.
