Category Enforcement not working (Racing Score)

Every time I enter a supposedly Racing Score category enforced race, there are a bunch of racers who are well above the category limits in the race. These riders that are too strong for the category destroy the race.

Seven of the top ten in the race I did this morning were well above the supposed category limit in a RS 160 -270 race, some by 100 points. When I look at their Zwift profiles, those 300 numbers are what show as their Racing Score there as well. How do they join a race with a supposed limit of 270 when their RS is well over 300?

Score changes are since their last race.

Have all those riders had a break from racing of 90+ days and then done the race above?

you can’t tell by looking at the results on the companion app, but if you look at Zwiftpower.com you will see the winner set a new 5 minute PR which gave him a new seed score well above the 270 limit. However, before the race he was under 270. I imagine the same story for all the others.

2nd place was a decay issue, giving him a much lower score than he probably deserves.

Just checked a couple, and they have multiple races in Dec alone.

4th place, new 5 min PR gave him a big bump, was under 270 at start of race

edit, this is 4th place, 3rd isn’t on Zwiftpower

but you see the trend here…

The guy in 8th (12th on Zwift results) on Zwiftpower didn’t set any higher numbers than he had already in Dec. His RS of 300 supposedly went up 4 from this race.

Why isn’t the RS increase shown for the race the actual Racing score increase?

decay maybe, his last ZRS race was way back in August. I can’t remember when they changed the decay to stop if you have any race results, like ZRL in this example, but I assume his 250 was still his score at the beginning of todays race.

Guess the take away is not to bother with open Zwift races. Knew that, made the same mistake again.

What I hope this is - is good news.

There has been an issue where setting a new 5min pb did not show in the results but did show as your ZRS elsewhere, ZP, ZCA and your zwift profile. However there was also the issue that the new 5 min pb was ignored at the next ZRS race as the previous race result ZRS score was used.

I think and hope that this is a new race result format where the new 5 min pb has been taken into account and then the race result increase of 7, 6, 5, 4 etc has been added and only race result increase shown ?

I had the same issue where 3 of the top 4 were over the Cat limit (390-510) before the race. The winner had a score of 930, how could he even enter the race with such a high score? It really spoilt the race as he set an impossible pace for the Category and blew the race apart.

you need to look on zwiftpower and use the new ZP ZRS chrome extension so it shows how peoples scores move. the results on Zwift.com or in the companion don’t tell the whole story.

the 1st and 2nd place guys aren’t on zwiftpower, but likely the same story, here is Markus: new 5 min PR gave him a new seed score much higher, he was under 510 at the start.

Think I’ve found your race on Tim’s site, which is vELO, unlike ZRS. And these days includes riders not registered on zwiftpower as “privateplayer{XYZ}”
https://www.zwiftracing.app/events/5230479

It’s good Tim’s site shops the private players, but it doesn’t tell us what weight and height changes they are doing, potentially distrupting things for legit racers.

You left a message on his ZCA activity. Did you check out his activity before leaving the message? His ZRS was 356 at end of his last ZRS race. In this race he achieved his 800w - 1100 watt badges - that might suggest he had some trainer malfunction issues either leading up to or in this race.

Fair enough, it’s pretty dispiriting seeing some with a score of 930 destroy the field. For a casual user the companion app is where you see the results. That shows his score going from 930 at the start to 933. So I guess the ZRS shown in the companion app is not fit for purpose and going forward needs fixing to show the correct values and how they have changed?

Depends what you want.
Some people want to know what the actual race result score movement is and others want to know what the score movement is including any change due to a new 5 min PB. Not easy to provide both at the same time. [ I expect someone will tell me they want to both !]

I suggest that all these racers started with a ZRS within the pen range (Zwift will tell you that is a pen rule) and that the movement in score is mostly through a new 5 min pb ( not shown) plus a small race result score gain.

Thanks, I wasn’t aware of this. I thought the 2 ZRS scores in the companion app reflected the pre-race score and how it has been affected by the race +/-. Clearly not.

I’m guessing most other racers are left non-plussed by these figures not reflecting a racers pre-race score or the actual increase. It might be worthwhile for Zwift to communicate this issue clearly to racers. Ta.

I am here to meet your expectations. zwiftracing.app does show this. It’s just UI work.
