Welcome to the Cat A and B riders

Would just like to welcome all the returning Cat A and B riders to Cat D racing :+1:

The scores and decay make little sense.

What problem is the ZRS decay supposed to address?

I took the Summer off the platform.

Last Spring, I was cat C with ZRS of 284.

The decay or lack of riding dropped ZRS to below 200.

The lowest I saw on ZP was about 188 but I was still Cat C.

I get on platform and do the workout of the week.

A Sweetspot/threshold work out called Spaded Sweetie.

Not a VO2 killer but still should be hard.

The result is my ZRS apparently dropped to 207 and I’m cat D.

I do a race, (Cat C), and I get a new floor and I’m cat C again and score goes up 77 points to 204.

I do another race and the result says my score goes up 13 points to 209?

Apparently in Zwift land, 204 + 13 = 209.

Zwift is just leaving too many doors open for people to game the game.

I get, “gamers gonna game” but does the game have be so openly encouraging this behavior?

It’s a game and they pay their money, etc.

I do not get what satisfaction they would achieve from beating C or D level if they are high level B or A?

In companion app my score is also too low, but I’m not racing either (doesn’t interest me). I have been doing daily ADZ laps so maybe that’s confusing the calculations because these are 45-50min efforts (where you have to use your power carefully) and not 5 minute extreme efforts.

There is a new feature that moves your score all the way up to seed with a new 5 minute PB. There do seem to be some bugs with it though.

It doesn’t calculate until the end of the activity so doesn’t show up on race results as they are generated before the activity ends.

The new “30-day Maximum” score, visible on your profile on the website, seems to ignore the new seed score.

The race results for subsequent races show score movements compared to the end of the previous race. Say you finish a race with a result of 250 points, but you also have a new seed of 280 points. At the end of the next race say your score is 270, that will show as +20 instead of -10.

I can’t tell yet whether these are just bugs in how the scores are displayed, or whether the pen enforcement is impacted too.

The only bonus I can see with the current system is that if you are consistent from week to week and I only Zwift all year round to do this, your racing score stays pretty much constant. So my current racing score is 251 and went up in the last race by 12 so still in D Cat but that’s probably better than the bottom of C Cat. The way I would do it would be just to freeze your score during the time off and when you return its the same. Whether your got fitter or not over the break doesn’t really matter, you just start racing again and your score adjusts. Too bad if you sat on the couch for 6 months, you will have to lose a few races and drop down.

That is exactly how it was working before they bought decay back.

Weird, why try and fix a problem that doesn’t exist. Maybe too many people started whining about not keeping up their fitness level all year round.
