Speed issues & setup

Hi, I’ve only done two rides but I feel like I’m the slowest rider out there. I’m using a classic trainer from the “other” category and a mountain bike. On a hill I go 3-5 mph. Normal straightway I go about 10-12 MPH. Down hills anywhere from 15-40 mph. I have a speed sensor but not a cadence sensor and am using Apple Watch for heart rate monitor. I earned level 2 today.

I do have a road bike in the garage. Should I be using that instead? Would it make a difference with speed? I feel like I’m working hard but riders are flying past me left and right. Any help and/or setup suggestions would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

What sort of watts does Zwift say that you’re putting out?

I don’t think I’ve ever been above 130-150. On a hill I’m around 35-85 watts.

Thanks. I think one of my problems must be that my classic trainer wasn’t listed in setup so I had to select “other.” That must mean Zwift doesn’t understand what I’m using and therefore is struggling to calculate my wattage.

Yes, the gearing will be better and allow for more speed. Also, get a smooth tire or trainer tire for it, don’t use knobby tires on a wheel-on trainer.

Thank you Mike! I’ll definitely switch out the bike today and head to the bike store for a tire.
