still no way to remove this “feature” ?
I am double recording - Zwift and Garmin Edge 540. The reason is I want to have all Garmin metrics. But for the same activity, Watts and HR there is a difference in Calories - Garmin = Zwift +20%!
I always double record. Because my Garmin is all seeing for every activity type and captures far more detail in the metrics that is where my training focus, load, recovery and so on are tracked. Garmin is for me. Strava is the public face of my efforts, where I can see segment times and track my phony Zwift mileage.
If all you ever do is ride a bike, or now ride and run, then maybe Zwift is enough, but I don’t want to be de-duplicating all over the place. I already have to de-duplicate in Strava. I’ve just deleted the link between Zwift and Garmin because it’s just not worth the hassle of having to tidy up three platforms. So I’ve set my weekly target in Zwift as low as it will go and will pay it no heed at all. It just gets in the way.
As for Calories specifically, the match between ACTIVE Calories in Garmin and Calories in Zwift is actually very close, with a power meter to set a common baseline for energy expenditure over time. The difference in Garmin numbers might be accounted for by the addition of BMR Calories, just for staying alive. It’s important to make the distinction. At least Garmin spells it out. Pick whichever Calorie figure serves your purpose.
Sounds good! I’ve been one of several moaning about this. Looks like any running counts.
Still has me as fresh despite an interval run this morning.
With the Apple Watch being the most popular fitness tracker (source: Strava’s 12th Annual Year in Sport Trend Report), it’s disappointing that outdoor runs logged to Apple Health are not (yet) included in this. I hope you can rectify this soon.
This is a fantastic update as i do love my running outside in the summer ![]()
App version 3.78.2
iOS 26.2.1
My running activities are not showing up correctly, supposed pink bars are invisible. Also those are not showing up on my activity list
Any running, as long as you use Garmin. Most of the trail runners I know use either Suunto or Coros watches, but at least my treadmill miles will count now
True - I hadn’t clocked it was Garmin only.
Much welcome new feature!
As long as we wait for broader support for Suunto, etc. I was wondering if one could import runs via fit file upload to the Wahoo app.
I tried it and Wahoo saved the activity as ride, not as run. It was immediately imported to Zwift Companion as ride as well. I could change the activity type in the Wahoo app to running. How do I get this update pushed from Wahoo to Zwift Companion? Is there a way to reprocess the data? If I delete the activity in Companion, will it be fetched from Wahoo again?
The Strava report that Apple Watch is the most used is likely not relevant for Zwift. The typical Strava user is probably very different than the typical Zwift user. It makes sense that a typical Zwift user is also a Garmin or Wahoo user, which is why Zwift has focused development efforts on those first. Zwift is primarily a cycling platform, with a little running mixed in. Accordingly, the typical cyclist that also runs is most likely going to own a Garmin (or several).
Moreover, the Strava report is potentially misleading - how many of those Apple activities are users that signed into Strava once, connected Apple Health and hasn’t been on since - with activities automatically being imported into Strava but never touched. Or all of the users that signed into Strava in 2020, but haven’t been back since? Even more, Apple Watch and Apple Health data is poor compared to all other fitness trackers in the space, as Apple doesn’t even generate an industry standard FIT file, not to mention managing the connection to Apple Health is incredibly difficult since Apple only keeps activity data on device.
More telling isn’t necessarily the “most used” device on Strava, but rather the device used by the highest proportion of paid users on Strava, which is Garmin. I don’t disagree that having a connection to Apple Health should be implemented eventually, and I’m sure Zwift decision makers wouldn’t disagree either. But they have limited development resources, and they will need to prioritize those efforts. They will likely be prioritized based on targeting 1) Power users (and paid users), 2) Quality of data, and 3) Ease of data transfer/import.
Based on my question and @shooj answer, I don’t think using the Wahoo app will get runs into Zwift.
I must not be typical, back when I was riding outdoors, my bikes were setup for Garmin, but once I switched to running I chose Suunto since it better fit my needs. Thankfully, my chosen fitness app can handle both
Apple is a smart watch that does sports, Sunnto/Garmin/Coros are sports watches that are “smart”
Thank you for your reply, I must have misunderstood that.
However, I’d still like to know if it is in principle possible to reprocess data from Wahoo into Zwift after an update to an activity. If so, how is this done?
Hey everyone,
Thanks for the feedback since we launched running tracking support in Zwift Companion. We’re aware of a few issues and wanted to give you an update on where things stand.
What we’re working on:
- Include Running toggle not working correctly — We’ve identified the issue and a fix is in the works, targeted for next week’s Zwift Companion release.
- Duplicate virtual runs — Some users who dual-record their Zwift runs are seeing duplicate virtual run activities. We’ll be filtering out running activities imported from Garmin and Wahoo tagged as “virtual” to resolve this. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll clean up any backfilled historical activities for Zwifters, so there is no need for you to delete previous activities.
- Include Running toggle for goals not appearing — Some users weren’t seeing the running toggle on the goals screen. This has been addressed. If you’re still not seeing the running toggle, please be sure to be on the latest version of Zwift Companion from Google Play or Apple App Store.
We appreciate your patience as we work through these. Keep the feedback coming, it helps us improve.
The Strava report showed the total number of Apple Watches against each individual model of Garmin device. If the number of Garmin devices had also been totalled it would have far exceeded the number of Apple Watches. You might wonder why it was reported like this…
My daily walks with my dog are being pulled in. Should walks be included?
I’m surprised this hasn’t been raised yet, or maybe I’m the only one!
Starting this week, I have a lot of pink in My Fitness Trends, something I haven’t seen before. I found out the colour Pink is used to denote Anaerobic Efforts. Looking back, all my outside commutes recorded on my Edge 530 have Pink recorded, yet these are ridden as Z1 or Z2. I checked the Garmin activities and all have 0.5 or less Anaerobic effort recorded. On Tuesday my commute resulted in 105 Stress Points from 2x 5-mile rides! I even got 3 SPs this morning from my dog walk (Vivoactive 6).
Something isn’t right! Is anyone else seeing this? It’s pushed my training score up by 10-points!
Yes, walking is running (if you’ve ever seen a back-of-the pack utlrarunner, you’d see that in action)
