tl;dr: The apps are going away and will be OSSed. Also, y’all are the best users ever!
An update for anyone still using the PainSled or RowedBiker apps to row on Zwift.
I’m officially calling end-of-life on both apps, and I’ll also be shutting down the backend services that powered direct sync to Strava, TrainingPeaks, etc. Once those services are offline, direct sync and cloud features will stop working. Some of them haven’t worked for years anyhow.
The apps will still record workouts locally, and file export will continue to work. Going forward, exporting files and manually uploading them is the supported path to other platforms.
Rather than let everything disappear, I intend to open-source the code. If you’re comfortable building your own binaries or maintaining a fork for personal use, you’re welcome to do so, but it will be completely on your own.
I won’t be pushing App Store updates or providing app or development support going forward. This is a clean stop, not a transition to a new maintainer. The apps did what I built them to do, and it’s time to move on.
Thanks to everyone who used the apps and sent feedback over the years. You are the best user base anyone could ever hope for. I always looked forward to your very few support emails because you are almost universally a bright, engaging, and fun bunch of folks. I wish you all the best in your fitness and life pursuits.
Row On!
