I know exactly what you’re talking about — I’ve been experiencing the same thing for months now. It’s no fun at all. Absolutely disrespectful of Zwift. They’d rather introduce bike upgrades no one needs than fixing the actual issues.
He needs to get to level 85 stat and get those free play controllers
Do the screenshots seen above mean you are completely finished with the changes?
Because people are certainly not pleased at all and it seems you’ve got a lot more work to do.
Especially consult lightweight riders less than 60kg weight, the ones who have low power but reasonable w/kg.
“Based on the available data, the proportion of adult men in the USA weighing less than 60 kg is extremely low, probably less than 1 %.”
Tiny marginalized groups are less important than normal people.
I didn’t realise that Zwift was a male only, USA only product.
I guess that’s a similar assertion to this:
Yes @Chris_D9 I would have to agree this person is full of something besides their own innate correctness in everything. Many of my “friends” on Zwift have the problem of being underweight but since it’s only 1% of the users…
you better keep pulling us on bagels then, because it’s not a good time when 59kg me is doing the work
Honestly, I would just be happy if riders centered back on the road. I’m getting tired 1/4 year later and everyone leans to riding on the outer edges of the roads. It seems to work just fine when you’re solo, but as soon as there’s two, three, four people it’s slam to an edge.
Or the case of .. everyone avoid the center of the lane
this last one, note we’re coming back center, but were off far right.
I can keep going too, but I think everyone here understands just as well that there is still a fundamental flaw that there’s no “gravity” to the center of the road when not solo.
And I still agree with whoever said it first; packs should force the rider behind to go into the wind when they’re at a higher state of power; and not push people ahead of them around.
Even if the “pass check” is still there, I think a visual representation of someone going into the wind, and not making progress is more lifelike, than just being stuck behind someone, ramping power, and … going nowhere (until the person in front of you gets shoved around).
On a similar note, on this week’s TTT I kept getting stuck behind my teammate who did it with me (just two of us), he’s higher power, heavier, but was only really Z3, and yet… I still couldn’t pass him at times.
And what I noticed was, if I eased the gun a bit, brought power up, and steered around him, I would more successfully get around him, than if I just tried to plough through for equal ramp power.
So I’m going to safely state that… pass checking might be too aggressive.
Obviously I can’t confirm this, but a gut instinct after playing with it on Waisted 8 which has some very flat portions including Tempus; by the end of the race, I’m very convinced.
For sake of details on that TTT (again just 2 of us)
me: 59.6kg avg 247w normalized 255, but I was doing pulls ~300w
teammate: 70kg avg 272w normalized 275
Was I not passing until I exceeded his 270w? I’m not sure.
What I do know however is I moved by him more easily if I steered away. It seems as though I was able to escape the pass check when I did that, and didn’t get latched behind him until I was in the 300w range.
The steering to get around people to avoid the blocking effects is an old trick. I’m same weight as you and have the same problem.
Are we still yelling into the void? Can anyone at Zwift at least chime in here?
@Jon or anyone at Zwift could talk about the changes and why is PD5 paused like it is only on free rides and group rides but there isnt any race with it.
Yes, can we extend PD5 to all races so they can be “more exciting” as well?
It’s frustrating in normal rides.
There have been tweaks lately, I know because I got a “how was your steering experience?” survey at the end of a ride yesterday.
TT bikes are still draft-seeking, both towards riders and runners. So not great.
I think that’s just a normal thing if steering is enabled.
The problem is, you can’t fight for a position if you instantly get pushed aside. The only thing you’re fighting for — or hoping for — is that somehow you get back into the draft. Easier said than done. And when you finally manage to get back in, you’re pushed out again within seconds.
This is what I call absolute bullshit. In real life — which is supposedly what Zwift is aiming to simulate — people move up alongside others. Because guess what? You can’t just push someone out of the way.
They claim 90% don’t notice — so screw the 10% who do? Is that Zwift’s approach now? I’d bet that the 10% who do notice are the very people who made Zwift what it is today. The long-time Zwifters who believed in Zwift — or used to. And this is how you treat them?
Be ashamed of yourself, Zwift. Honestly.
Still no change for people without steering getting stuck out at the far edges of the road without draft. It’s really frustrating.
It seems like this behaviour is working as intended, same as overtaking riders pushing others out of the draft, but it’s still not very nice.
Any word on fixes please?
That right there ^^ There’s other problems with PD5 but being pushed to the outside by people riding up through you from behind is the #1 issue that needs to be sorted before PD5 gets implemented into races.
I can control my own power relative to the pack ahead of me and even actively steer to the center to keep in good position. But if someone can just ride up through my avatar, push me to the outside and then collision detection prevents me from coming back in unless I fall to the back or otherwise find a gap, that’s a non-starter for race pack dynamics.
That’s what I’d call “making racing more exciting”.
I was in an AHDR group ride the other day and it seemed far different to the usual robopacer group ride behaviour, I wasn’t shoved out to the side and it was fairly easy to stay with them and go through the pack. No big accelerations needed.
This is what we need to go back to for all riding in Zwift.
If that’s not a reasonable expectation, then in the interests of equal opportunity for all, put PD5 for everyone (including racing).
With this new release 1.88 PD5 has been disable in all worlds but still on for events(grouprides ).I would like to know why and if they are going to make changes.Total disaster in terms of communication with the community.
How did you figure this out and how do we confirm this?
