That’s it for me.
Zwift has pushed their greed down my throat for the last time, and i am not going to just accept it any more.
The new pack dynamics is clearly ment to push people to throw money at zwift for zwiftplay, and i for one is not going to spend two weeks of food-money on a pair of bluetooth remotes just to not be forced out of every draft-blob i am in.
TTT is ruined, group-rides are close to ruined and racing is a no go.
This push to force us to buy zwift play only serves to aggrevate, and i will take my money elsewhere, after all the community isn’t enough when i am forced out of competing.
If you read the many other posts on this subject you’ll see that there are plenty of people with steering who are complaining about PD5 too, because the steering won’t let them into the position they want to be in, or requires too much constant steering.
So you’re not correct that Zwift are somehow trying to make people buy Zwift Play (and by the way, other steering devices are available too).
I’ve given up testing steering in PD5 with my Kickrbike.
If I’m riding solo and nobody around, I can steer around.
If anyone is around me, the steering is constantly blocked… so no, definitely no benefit to those using steering right now; in fact, steering users have less control now than ever before!
Not to mention the expansion into steering user only lanes are now opened; now is literally the least benefit steering users have ever had.
Up until 1.79/PD5 however, yes, steering gave users an additional lane or two on both sides of the road, and the ability to sit “inside” other riders for extremely compact draft benefits.
As of now [1.79+ {December 2024}]; this is no longer the case.
Everyone shares the same number of lanes.
Everyone shares the same ‘physical’ space.
The playing field has finally been “equalized”
(albeit, poorly until PD5 / auto steering is fixed)
Did the muckle yin stage of the TDZ earlier, found my avatar was constantly steering to the right limit and forcing me out of the draft without any input on the play controllers.
The only way I could stay in a group was by counter steering left.(using either controller )
With about 6 km to go, I turned off the RH controller off and rode for a k with the avatar acting as expected from a non steering pov, I turned the RH play controller back on and the steering worked as normal.
Amen Paul. Steering is next to useless since the introduction of PD5. There was a guy on here a month ago or so arguing that when you ride in real life you can’t pass through people and nor should you be able to in zwift…it’s beyond ridiculous. Zwift is nothing more than a game that helps you exercise. A game. If you require the type of “realism” that comes with riding outdoors, perhaps riding outdoors would suit more?? I used to love using Zwift. It was great fun and helped me lose over 20kg. Currently though I cringe when I think about using it and only stick with it to maintain my fitness. It’s no longer fun. It’s just a chore to use and I think I actually hate it. Zwift has ruined what they had by trying to appease the purists…
That is the biggest rubbish I have ever read. If you have steering, you are so screwed. You always get pushed aside; you are always on the left or right side. You can never get into the pack. Moving up is almost impossible. As many others have said, it’s enough now—there are many other platforms that treat people the same way. Zwift doesn’t give a ■■■■, but they will also fall off the horse. You’ll wait and see.
The current group dynamics are the worst ever on Zwift. Unrideable, honestly. If you are on a Kickr Bike you will see what being screwed means.
I don’t use steering and still get pushed aside. I also gave up using steering because no matter where you wanted to steer or remain, Zwift would take over and steer you away. So you’d end up constantly pressing the steering buttons enough to eventually break them. Frustrating to the point you may as well not having steering at all.
Did any of this actually make racing more exciting or allow breakaways to succeed? Do the racing crowd actually enjoy PD5.whatever? If not, then I would go back to the drawing board.
You could do as I do, ride where nobody else dares to go. I stick mainly with Road to Sky route, it’s great, there are no flame-wars in the chat, very few riders and no getting blocked, no sticky-draft and you don’t get pushed about.
