Pace Partner Weekly Update // WC July 11th

I 2nd the bot chat issue.

A setting to disable the highly annoying canned bot chat would be greatly appreciated. Some of us are adults and well motivated. Having a bot ‘hype’ us up continuously is rather degrading.

Is the problem not so much that they talk but rather what they say?

How often do they say something, once every 10 or 15 minutes? 4 times an hour? Is it really that hard to ignore???

I must be missing something here. Is this related to the new UI? On Apple TV I only see the list of pace partners, each using whatever route was assigned for the week. It would not matter if there were a hundred routes that are cycled through the eight pace partners on a weekly basis.

Yep - The New UI shows ALL Pace Partners that are currently live.

I ignore what they say but it’s fairly repetitive even in an hour’s ride (huge assumption but i reckon this is the timeframe most people ride with them). If you ride with them 2-3 times a week it’s same stuff said over and over again. However, as I’m an adult, it doesn’t bother me.

My last three rides with the PP has been nothing but connection loses. One minute I am crusing in the pack and the next I am at standstill. It has only been happening if I join a PP not when free riding. Has anyone else had this issue? Nothing has changed in my zwift set up.

Return of the Alpe Pacers is great. Perfect timing for tonights stage. Thank you.

Thanks James. Pace Partners rule!! Love them.

I do like what some are saying re: an even spread of w/kg. I saw someone above showing an even increase of 15.5% (or something like that).

I’m all for that really balanced approach!

Keep up the good work Zwift PP team.

We’re going to run with the paces I listed either in this thread or one of the many others :joy:

That’ll be from mid/late August onwards, but that doesn’t mean we won’t tweak in the future based on feedback.

The difficulty is that they won’t be perfect for everyone but we’ll do the best that we can.

Of course, anything can be amended or adjusted if you guys feel it’s required/positive input.

And yes, no one will ever be happy. But I tell you is happy. Me.

Pace Partners are perfect as is. Haha. Change my mind.

Every pace partner ride has automated looped bot chat.

It’s totally useless messaging. 24hr a day, every ride, the same canned blips.

Of course you can ignore it. My point is very simple, we have real humans chatting yet we need an automated annoyingly positive blip from the bot repeatedly? If the pace partner is going to talk, why not make it actually useful info about the route, about future Zwift updates? Hell, anything is better than the current robotic pump up banter.

I’m amazed anyone enjoys it.

Product has poor bot chat. Audience response. Just ignore it… yeah, that’s how you improve a product.

Either, dramatically improve the messaging or simply give the users the ability to turn the pointless canned chat off.

Thanks for your feedback. I’ll review the messaging.

I was on one of the Alpe PP rides yesterday. I thought that would have been a great time to have some route-specific chat - giving notice of important waypoints, commenting on some of the scenery, advice on where to put in some power etc.

Having said that, I’m pretty happy with the current PP system. Just an idea for future PP events?

Yep true.

The only difficulty is time. These set of stages took me several hours to set up with having to calculate the times for each of the categories.

Setting up distance based messaging is possible, but again very time consuming and it’s only little me (and Chris who wrote the copy) but a nice idea for the future.

@PeteB
I really like this idea of 15.5% increase per step.
Curious what @James_Zwift thinks of this idea?

Also really liking the dynamic pacing on hills.

On the wishlist - I would like some sort of estimate of difficulty - PP w/kg * hilliness.

With dynamic pacing (and my weight), I can hang with faster PP on Tempus Fugit, but struggle (and would be better off stepping down a PP) on hilly rides.

It would be nice to have some quick estimate (1-5 hills?) of the hilliness of the PP’s route, to let you know that you might want to choose Denise instead of Daniela this week…

Crazy question.

Is there a way to know what the time to complete a route is for a certain pace partner given that they ride at a consistent power (besides hills/descents) throughout the route?

I’d like to know how much time it takes for Diego to complete the flat route.

No, but probably bang on 20 minutes.

… with some variation depending on how good a draft he gets. I noticed when I was doing 25 (+1 for luck) laps of Volcano Circuit CCW that there was quite a bit of variation depending on blob size and how ‘in the thick of it’ the PP was.

We will be showing average speed in the future, but that won’t really help the “how strong is the draft now”
