Pace Partner Update {Sep1 2022]

I did the Graduation ride yesterday and Genie and Constance were in the same small pack for the whole 45 mins haha, someties Genie was even faster. Somehow, even as a far lighter rider than Constance, I “just” needed ~4W/kg to stay in the group. Normally i have to push far more W/kg on the flat routes cause of the lower weight.

Okay - I may have this fixed.

A number of the old Pace Partners (about 15 or so) decided that they weren’t done yet and came back to play. I’ve deleted their profiles and suspect we’ve never tried having about 40 online at the same time.

Coco has been fine for the last 5 minutes and I’m continuing to monitor.

Still ok. I think this is fixed.

Funnily enough, I found exactly the same thing with the Jacques & Yumi bots.

There were jokes on my ridfe that this was the start of a Robo-Romance and Genie wasn’t welcome.

I, for one, welcome our new Pace Partner overlords …

Yep. I was on the same ride and I too bridged up from Coco to Jacques and Yumi. With a decent pack size it was impossible for Jaques to pull away. Every time his nose was in the wind he didn’t have the juice to break away. It was quite weird, but a good education in the power of the pack draft.

I was absolute toast by the end of the first lap though, but carried on solo for another lap at easier pace and Coco never caught me. Slacker!

I don’t understand the wattage / speed since the update. My favorite was Brevet with 3.3w/kg, and we can rode like 42-44km/h with 150-200m elevation. But now, 3.3w/kg with Jacques, we only riding 38-39km/h with the same elevation. I don’t understand this.

I don’t recall what Brevet’s weight was, but now they are all 75kg and the same height as well, so that is probably why the speed has lowered a bit.

Because the weight? A cyclist with a low weight can still be fast, just remember back J. Vingegaard (60kg) TDF TT result, he was the fastest, just throwed the last meters for Wout van Aert.

Yes, because the pace is based on w/kg here. So for the same w/kg, a Pace Partner who loses weight is going to also lose some power.

one minor complaint – the new homescreen lists the bots from D to A left to right.

that means that i have to scroll down to the bots, then right to get to a C, B or A bot.

one possible “more convenient” approach would be to allow me to “bookmark” or “favorite” 2 or 3 of the bots up to the top of the screen. i’d like to have coco/watopia, yumi/watopia and jacques/makuri easier to get at.

other than that, awesome updates!

Yep, that’s fair enough, but the larger proportion of Zwifters are C and D.

I think in future improvements we are looking to recommend them based on your previous activities. That’s a bit of a way off yet though.

But this no sense for me, because a lower weight rider need less power, for the same km/h.
I’m 62kg, when i was rode with Brevet, i was needed avg.205-210w for example 42km/h. But now, i need 220-225w for the same speed!? In real life you need less power if you are lighter, but here in zwift is opposite. I hope they fix it soon…

I don’t think anything is broken here.

The new pace partners are different weights and will have different power output, but you shouldn’t have to put out more power to go a slower speed.

I’ll keep an eye out though.

I thought the old system where the names lined up with the categories (e.g. Anquetil = A bot, Brevet = B bot, etc.) made a ton of intuitive sense and helped find the right pace partner. Any discussions to bring that back? Personally really liked that system. Thanks.

No, sorry.

I’ve applied the latest updates on my Android tablet and still the PPs are being presented with their dynamic W/kg on the home screen. I thought the plan was to use their fixed target values on the flat. Clearly not yet. So, respectfully, when?

Unsure currently but we’re looking to prioritise that work.
