Off the MAAP Tour 2020

Same in my race Mikey - I posted on the race comments section and the rider I pointed out was then DQ-ed. But there were others. I think the confusion might be that there was a rider version of Rising Empire as well as the race.

Did the Cat D race today… was my first ever race and was great fun although those hills killed me! Only been cycling for a couple of weeks so the only way is up!!

I also did a Stage 1 race, but WKG and UPG were not applied on ZwiftPower. There’s a ZwiftPower forum post here about the issue: ZwiftPower - Login

It looks like someone needs to fix the setup for these events to apply WKG and UPG. @Ride_Cyclery Now that you took over ZwiftPower, please fix this for all Off the MAAP races. Thanks!

Zwift events have never used the DQ or upgrade option in Zwift power. It is a bit of free for all.

Hopefully Zwift will consider changing that practice. ZwiftPower moderators seem to be happy to enforce WKG/UPG retroactively, but it would be nice if Zwift set it up across the board ahead of time.

Well said Miss T

I fear it must, oh but wait they are using is as a ā€œtraining rideā€ or ā€œcoming back from injuryā€ which is why they race at the front and contest the sprint of course…

For balance I should say my Cat C MAAP race tonight had a genuine 4-way sprint with 4 of us as Cat C riders. Top 4 stayed top 4 Only a bit of balance, I fear, as I was shocked that was the case!

Oh yes, and having asked Sticky to run the race cat enforcement, there were 78 DQs across the 4 cat races…

I couldn’t agree more with this. People in the wrong category are ruining the experience for people in lower categories.

Maap Stage 2 at 09:02 (BST) - Category D

1st place - avr 3.20 w/kg
2nd place - 3.78 w/kg
3rd place - 3.30 w/kg

8th place - 3.75w/kg

Leading people that were in correct category (within 5% of max):
28th, 32nd, 43rd, 56th, 57th, 62nd, 64th, 72nd.

I personally don’t see the point in entering races anymore - will get this series out of the way. Might look at other platforms and see how they police it - might prefer the experience there.

Here are the results of that race Tim…

By the looks of it, all those you refer to got DQ’ed

One way to race is have a Zwiftpower Live window open so that you know who to care about and who to ignore. Personally, if I find a high cat sandbagging in the group, I have fun with them (so long as I am not bursting blood vessels). For eg, make sure they do more work than you and dont offer a wheel leading up to the finish etc.

Unfortunately, I blew out at the beginning trying to keep up with a pack. Didn’t know about Zwiftpower live… I’ll check it out. Does it work on mobile android or would I need a PC?

Still - I would much rather people could enter lower categories. Would massively improve the experience.

Zwiftpower is an essential if you’re racing on Zwift. Zwift just doesn’t manage it. Sadly, Zwiftpower can’t do anything about the race dynamics that are created by sandbaggers and especially by ZPower riders.

In 50 minutes another MAAP race starts. I can already see a lot of ZPower riders registered that will totally destroy the race and make this about keeping up with them.

Just look at this (registered for B race). 15 sec power same as 20 minutes power? 380w FTP? Pushing 5w/kg all the time?

There are more riders like him in the race, but he is the most extreme. I just don’t get why Zwift doesn’t stop this. They have to!

Itā€˜s sad to know that this will race will just be about staying in the draft as long as possible.

Yes, Zwift wants the game to be open for everyone. But by doing this, they ruin it for most of us. :frowning:

Unsure if the live function works on a phone.

Yep, if you knew most of those around you were sandbaggers, you could well have had different tactics.

Sorting categories out is really the only solution as you shouldnt need a dashboard of things to watch to have a race. And Zwift keep promising to sort the racing category side of this out but …

Just confirmed that the Live view works on my phone - not sure I would say its workable though - you could jump on now and have a play with any race that is live now (you dont have to be entered). As its just a web page, keeping the page open will be a problem. Also not that Live view doesnt work for all races. The big events like MAAP dont seem to have been setup that well whereas most other races work.

I was bumped from 12th to 1st in my MAAP race after they applied the filter retrospectively. They were all B riders and flagged as such by zwiftpower. Just dont understand why it wasnt automatically sorted?

Same reason there’s never any automatic filtering on events organised by Zwift HQ rather than the community.

It would seem a simple thing  I dont get wound around the axle about it but if you will do it retrospectively why not just do it automatically? Zwiftpower is very good I have no real complaints. Im sure it will get better. Ive been here since beta and its a million miles better now

You’re misunderstanding me. Zwift don’t care about cheating, sandbagging, abusing Zpower or inaccurate results. Only the existence of ZwiftPower filtering even begins to address those things, and their rules are applied by the community of race organisers, not Zwift or ZwiftPower. The only difference with the Off the MAAP races is the ZwiftPower admin (one bloke) is reacting to requests to manually apply the standard categorisation rules. It’s not automatic because events organised by Zwift never are.

How do you see that they are using zwift power? I had a lady who is changing her weight to suit the races… 45kg the 55kg… she won the 3rd stage ahead of me spinning out 10 watts/kg. She definitely picked up my interest after the race. And she has been doing this since zwift was invented!!

Loads of weight dopers as well as sandbaggers. I think zwift are happy with the sub money but don’t care to police their platform… It would take a lot of people cancelling their subscriptions for them to act.

Also, I name and shame in races now!!!
