Oculus quest/go VR support

Zwift VR is coming soon according to this article.

wow this is awesome. I hope we hear something from zwift soon!
I also agree with this research. When I’m doing zwift VR (on a huge Virtual screen I do feel like i can go further and more ā€œintuneā€ with my workout. There are way less things to distract me away. Blocking out the real world helps. It’s like when wearing headphones but better.

Not that it adds much to current discussion but couldn’t help mentioning I built a VR cycling prototype in 2014 with the original Oculus. Was great fun and def has legs (or wheels) as a concept. Originally it was a BMX track but everyone kept falling off  Ended up as a Mojave desert track with long winding roads and fairly flat to make it more comfortable. With the Wahoo KICKR Climb I’ve been hoping tracks with elevation would work better. The Oculus Quest handles sweat ok (get some spare face plates and use a fan). Hope Zwift VR comes out soon. Best of luck with it

Cool! Yeah would love some mountain biking trails in Zwift. If that happened I’d probably get the kickr climb. I’m using my Oculus Quest with VZfit explorer app (https://www.virzoom.com/) and the Virzoom bike i got awhile ago before I got a smart bike trainer. Its pretty cool and quest handles the sweat no problem (just have wipe my face are 30 or so mins). Virzoom bike can not control resistance through an app (its manual) so its a major let down from a smart trainer that does. Really wish zwift would release a a quest version. Would be amazing (and a lot easier to use than running zwift on virtual desktop in PCVR (Vavle index)

Any updates from Zwift on this?

At under $200 for an Oculus Go and the software allegedly already written (back in 2017!) this seems like a no-brainer? Sure, I probably wouldn’t want to wear this for an FTP test, but for a 45 minute recovery ride it might be a pleasant distraction from the boredom!

There are already competitors jumping on this bandwagon…

So how about maybe letting people at least beta-test the functionality?

looking behind you to see where other riders are etc. would be pretty cool.

I’m guessing that the VR experience of another Zwift rider cycling right through you might be a little disconcerting! :grinning:

Come on guys it’s 2020! Oculus quest and go HMD’s have been out for about a year. They are cheap and work good. Let’s get Zwift in VR!!

Totally agree! I have a Gen 1 rift and had remember seeing a demo back in 2017. Was really hoping this was a full product now.

I am surprised how many people above participated in this discussion with zero VR experience. This would be a fantastic addition, and if it required a current generation I would totally go get one.

Anyone talking negative about zwift in vr must not have experience with newer vr headsets. I have had every vr headset and am currently using a valve index and its night and day better compared to the early headsets. the Index is light weight and has a refresh rate of 144hz so its very smooth not to mention the resolution is a huge improvement.

please please release a vr version!

Any update on this? This would be absolutely awesome. I tried VRFit on Oculus Quest, and I liked it from perspective of riding in VR. It felt very natural. However VRFit graphics are terrible. They use Google Maps so it doesn’t transition smoothly from picture to picture, while their games basically are ugly and have bad graphics. However I saw great potential of cycling with Oculus Quest. Zwift already have amazingly looking 3d World. Are you going to introduce it?

Waiting impatiently. In the mean time there is VZFit explorer quest app that lets you ride around the world in VR (Using google street view) Has flaws but its really cool. Supports Bluetooth trainers but only power right now. They are close to getting controllable resistance going using FTMS standard. I’d check them out.

Supposed to be a cheaper quest coming out this fall too

Yeah, I’d buy Zwift for Quest! Beats using a phone.

I bought a quest 2 and am using it with zwift. I start virtual desktop and set up Zwift on a giant curved virtual screen. it’s not quite the same as 360 degrees and my glasses sometimes fog up, but I like it better than my laptop.

This VZFit work on quest 2? And I mean the Bluetooth connection. Bluetooth for most things have been locked under developer settings. One of my best Bluetooth headsets cause extreme lag in Beat Saber…

I didn’t try VZfit. I used zwift (2d) with Virtual Desktop, a program for Oculus Quest and other VR headsets. It allows me to control my pc from the headset. By curving the virtual desktop screen, it’s almost as good as a native VR application. The main drawback is sweat and fogging. When I use Virtual Desktop with my other VR headset, a Vive Pro, I don’t get fogging as much. A good fan helps.

I also experienced poor Bluetooth connections until I found my antenna which helped enormously. The other prerequisite for playing with Virtual Desktop is a strong Wi-Fi network directly connected to your pc.

yes vzfit works using bluetooth on quest 2. my trainer connects but it only supports power. they said they support the ftms protocol for resistance but must trainers do not fully support it.

This would be great! I use vzfit/virzoom and I love riding in VR. Yes it’s sweaty but that’s fine with a waterproof face surround on the headset. I love the feeling of full immersion that it gives me. I am new to zwift and love it already. I love the social possibilities in addition to the worlds, events and game like atmosphere. If I could marry these 2 platforms I would be in heaven!

Lol. I thought of trying that too!

I’m looking forward for Zwift VR in Oculus Quest. It would be amazing. I tried VzFit and immersion was great, first moment is like wow, this is so cool. Sadly VZfit when I tried, the graphics were just simply ugly and simplistic, while google earth with jumping stretching pictures were simply not that great.
Saying that if it was Zwift, the Watopia would have been fantastic. I’m also not too worry about sweating, in many games that are physically demanding I’m sweating in Oculus. It’s ok. Perhaps for hard-core cyclist cycling for two hours it would be too much but I don’t know. Certainly for shorter session for half hour, or boring foundation training session it would be super cool.
