New 2024 M4 iPad Pro and ultra resolution

I’m interested to see what the newer Mac Mini M4 Pro might be capable of.

I’m running a fairly old (but still good) Mac Pro 2010 using a 6 core Xeon and RX6600XT GPU which gets me Ultra graphics setting.

I wouldn’t be pleased if a much newer machine (which should be faster) got me worse graphics, especially since I use a 4K 55" TV screen. That’s why I don’t use Apple TV, it looks dreadful on screen, really low resolution and bad.

But I know the old machine is getting near the end of MacOS support.

Well said. What a bizarrely misinformed understanding of the state of graphics capabilities on Apple devices.

Without the external GPU you will probably be disappointed.

They cannot even update the graphics profile for the AppleTV 4K, so think we have no hope Zwift will every do this (And yes, I have a M4 iPad Pro)

Specifically MacOS it’s egregious that despite all the advances Zwift made porting to Apple Silicon and Metal, they didn’t do the most basic change which is: either set our profile to Ultra instead of High automatically, or at least let us opt into it. The M2 Pro chips let alone the M4 Pro is more than capable of it, and I’d hazard a guess that a large percentage of Zwift users are on MacBooks.

How quick are you zwifting with a Mac mini, compared to an Apple TV?

The only thing holding me back for a dedicated Zwift pc is the long start up time of windows

Ps. YouTube video

I used to say that Apple TV only took maybe 5 seconds to start up, and even that would get a furious argument from the one who isn’t here any more, his computers were always even faster than that.

I agree with you, I have a very fast machine here that runs Windows 11 Pro for Workstations and even it takes a while to start up. It’s not terrible slow, but slower than Apple TV.

It has Samsung 980 Pro storage that W11 is running on.

The flip side is Zwift looks way better on it so it’s worth the slightly longer wait.

Mac M4 gets the High profile based upon my activity today using the new MacBook Pro w/M4pro chip. Frame rate was locked to 60 fps by my 55" Samsung 4k TV.

We pushed a change in Game 1.78 to update the profile for M4-equipped Macs so you should see this change once your game client has been updated.

Any word on update plans for other M4-based hardware? Still getting Basic and 30fps on iPad.

This is the bit where the Zwift employees ignore your message………

Change {from} what {to} what?

From medium to high

@Dan_Kothlow the graphics profile has been increased from Medium to High as @Teddy_Svoronos mentioned.

Any idea when IPad Pro M4’s will receive the Ultra graphics update which was mentioned on another thread? It this is no longer happening it would be good to know that the graphics and frame rate will stay as is. Thanks

Hi @AlanZ, can you please share some information with us whether this update is the extent of graphics upgrades we should expect for the M4 iPad Pro? We don’t mean to be rude, there has just been very little communication.

Just connected a 4K TV to a Mac Mini M4, and enjoyed the upgrade experience compared to a 1080P TV with Apple TV. Zwift gives me High profile, and I can run at 4K resolution. I noticed shadows on the riders, a headlight from the Tron bike, jaggies disappeared almost entirely, more texture subtleties, so yeah, more realistic looking.

I’m getting a High profile running Zwift version 1.78 on a MacBook Pro M4 Max which is disappointing given its 40 video cores and 48 GB of RAM. Will there be any additional profiles defined by Zwift given the breadth of the M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max range?

Just adding one more vote for some iPad pro love. Both graphics and ability to support full screen on external display (the latter really feeling like table stakes at this point).

Looking at the performance results of the M4, I can imagine that an M4 Pro and an M4 Max should run with Ultra profile.
