Since most of the past expansion have focused on either Makuri and/or Watopia, I was wondering if there might not be some easy expansion to make to current worlds that have a lot of untapped potential: Bologna.
Since it was originally created for very specific purposes, Bologna only has a rideable route, an out and back thats very flat, leading to the San Luca climb thats used in the Giro dell Emilia race and was used in the TDF stage 2 this year. As of now, I would guess that a very high numbers of Zwifters aren’t even aware that Bologna exists since its only opened to events, most of them TTs.
I feel it would be relatively easy to add some routes to Bologna using the circuit that was riden during the TDF and adding a small part of the road that entered the city, while doing some very minor modifications to make a number of routes and loop possible, all without having to expand too much the scope of the current map. Adding these roads would enable Zwifters to ride roads that have seen exploits from our favorite pros 6 months ago and would add some beautiful italian roads to ride on.
Here’s my idea, where the green/yellow lines are the current Bologna ridable roads, and where the black lines are the new roads. The resulting world would have some city riding, some countryside riding, one very steep climb in San Luca and another climb in the country side. Since both climbs could be done both ways, you end up with a decent amount of variety, climbs and flats, in a pretty concentrated map.
Looking forward for your comments, and hopefully this can be something real before the Giro in May!
