For a long zwift ride I’m looking into mounting some triathlon/aerobars to be able to change position when things get tough. Don’t know if this would be of any use so I ather ask before buying.
Last year I did a 500k ride on the rollers and the deathpunch came from my back and arms. I’m hoping that these bars would get me further this time. Anyone any experience with this and and if so are there some specifics I should be looking for?
I have tri bars on my Zwift setup. Partly to give me some more riding position options for longer rides, but also so I can have the Companion App in front of me, but not so close as to allow sweat to randomly press buttons
I think the best answer would be to compare Zwift to your outdoor set up when you ride 500 k outdoors.
If you don’t ride longer distances outdoors, then changing positions may not be enough.
Aerobars are made to be aero, not comfortable.
Unless you are training indoors to keep the feel for your outdoor bike, I would recommend a more upright position.
I use a flat bar with bar ends.
If you aren’t used to the aerobars, they can actually cause you pain as well.
I think there are other things going on with the fit or your physical condition - by that not suggesting lack of fitness, but things like the core strength, etc.
Something else you can look at is a rocker plate, those help enormously with longer trainer rides, you move about slightly more like you would on a real bike.
Something important there, good idea to do some weights or other similar types of workouts, for your bones - because you can end up lacking in bone strength over time too.
Aside from that, the different exercises can help your riding.
