Late start option for group rides

I have seen a couple of posts about being able to join a group ride shortly after it has started. Last week I missed a scheduled group ride (not a race) by less than a minute due to technical difficulties. When I tried to join it again it was grayed out and I did not see any “late start” option. Ended up doing a free ride but was disappointed not to ride with the group.

Can someone tell me the steps to join a group ride after the starting time please?

I gather it’s up to the ride organiser to enable the late join option.

The only way I know is to have a friend in the ride, find their name on your list, and select “ride with.” Often, the group ride/leader’s name is in the description of events.
