This isn’t as much a troubleshooting post as a premonition of potential future problems.
I’m currently using a KK Road Machine with InRide and have read a great deal about issues with the Smart Control over the last 12 months, but little recently.
I’m looking to upgrade to this unit and wandered if anyone had any feedback on whether these issues have been addressed in recent firmware updates.
There’s been radio silence over the last 3 months so fingers crossed the issues have been resolved?
Just make sure to update the firmware immediately after opening up the trainer - I’m not sure if this has changed but they ship with old firmware that does not work with Zwift.
I replaced my fluid unit with their Smart Power control last week. It is now on its way back to Amazon. My notes to Kurt tech support:

Have been using standard Rock and Roll for about two years. Recently upgraded to your new Smart Power Control(using Kinetic Fit app my fluid unit works fine). Smart Power shows wildly fluctuation in power from ~75W to as high as 275W with no change of gears or rpm. Connected to Zwift the same problem is experienced; additionally, has a hill is approved the effort goes up as expected but does not drop on the downhill unless I pause and restart. Using PC, Android phone, older bike with 27" wheels. Tried various tire pressures and ipa wipes all with recalibration without success.
After discussion with Kurt Kinetic: two additional pieces of information. Deleted and reinstalled Fit app to make sure firmware has been updated-okay here. Listened to setup instructions again. When app pairs with Smart Power, there is no “flash” on green light-just stays constant. Unit does not have that concave washer-maybe an Amazon returned unit?..but my three year fluid trainer has no washer either.
I really want this to work as it makes biking more realistic with Zwift. Is it possible that this was an early unit that was returned to Amazon? It was missing the concave washer and although the box was taped the adhesive holding the top cover had been broken. From carton labels you sent this unit to Amazon in Orlando on 14Dec16 via FedEx 7160 4045 5000. Unit was then sent to me from their customer service center in Hebron, KY on 26Apr17. Another label that puzzles appears.to be from Kurt lists Mfg. Date as 12/20/2016. I question if this was a possible Amazon return?
While their tech rep did not indicate any problems with products currently in the market place, he did say they have just received a new shipment from China that they are thoroughly inspecting in house. If you are really anxious to purchase one, I would suggest ordering from Kurt Kinetic directly. That way you are assured of your best possible outcome.
