Jet Black Victory

I purchased a kickr core with Zwift cog to compare it to the JetBlack since I’m on my third JetBlack and it squeaks and vibrates. Here’s my quick review.

It’s clear from the outset, the core is packaged so much better and every part is far higher quality down to the three prong plug vs two on the JetBlack. There’s no handle on the core so that’s a negative. Everything about the core is confidently made.

So far the core is slightly smoother and about the same in noise. The resistance feels much better when standing and pushing. The JetBlack would always feel like I was pedaling air as it caught up to the higher gears when standing. Hard to explain.

Happy to answer questions. I’m going to keep the core since it gives me confidence it’ll last and “just work”. It looks nicer too. Anyone do the same?

I spoke with my contact at Jetblack last week. They will be releasing a new Jetblack app within the next two weeks.

Any update on this thanks ?

Ordered mine in the last release and promised MidMay delivery. Came a few days early. Packaging was good and setup worked fine.

Pleased with the Zwift Cog, although it takes some getting used to after 4 years on a Wattbike.

The only problem I have is that I cannot pair my Garmin with the trainer. Will just not pick it up.

I believe it is showing less power than the Powertap P1 pedals I have but I need to prove that by moving them to the Wattbike (right pedal does not connect - they are about 7 years old now).

The Garmin connection is a must for me because I do all my training based on Xert Magic Buckets on the Garmin. Got a support call in and had a response. It seemed to me that JB were not surprised about the issue.

My view is that it should work on either BT or Ant as my P1 pedals, Wattbike and HRM still do work on the same Garmin

Are you trying to pair to it as a power source or as an ANT+ FE-C trainer?

iirc it doesn’t broadcast ANT+ Power or ANT+ Speed/Cadence. You’ll need to pair your Garmin EDGE to it as an ANT+ FE-C trainer and set it to passive mode (or just don’t touch any control settings), then have Zwift control it.

My victory has just come back from having new bearings fitted (very low usage, it was humming like a helicopter. I actually checked flight radar the first time!). Now it has a high pitch whine (first ride since I got it back). I’m going to ask for a refund.

Thanks Shane. I don’t want to control the trainer from my Garmin. I just want Xert Magic Buckets to read the data and tell me how much low, high, peak XSS I have used so that I can hit my targets.

I cannot see the Victory on my Garmin at all. However I can see a speed/cadence ant+ connection - which I assume is the Victory.

Kickr core on its way to me, delivery comminicated for tomorrow by fedex.

Already an improvement, jet black was shipped standard post and arrived ovet 2 weeks later with no replies from the distributor on any of emails for tracking or delivery dates.

Zero response from app on any device i try, the zwift ingame issues persist and low power persists also.

Be happy to draw a line under this. Not sure how the manufacturer can claim accuracy and the functionalities when they are only addressing calibration issues 8 months later and so many other issues.

Faults occur, of course they do, it wud be unreasonable to say otherwise…but so many issues on so many levels. I would have at a minimum expected a working app at product launch and pre-shipping.

Anyway, all is well that ends well first and last jet black. Looking forward to concentrating on to training and zwift again.

Ride on folks

Thank you so much for sharing this guide. Just a quick question and I know probably it has already been answered, but if I make this full service (bearing swap) what exactly does it fix? Excessive vibration or clicking noises. Thx.

A bad bearing usually results in a constant groaning or humming that changes pitch with speed. I think, but can’t confirm, that the clicking or clunking is from a improperly torqued flange bolt on the flywheel that causes a bit of slop/play between the flywheel pulley and key.

I also have the 4194km odometer issue. Have experienced drops when using WiFi but now use BT. Support say another fix is on the way for WiFi issues.
I also had 1/2 cadence readings which seems to be fixed.
One that annoys me the most is how long it takes for it to read ZERO power and cadence when freewheeling on a descent.

I also think I am now experiencing the vibration that lots of people talked about. I sufferered numbness in my hands and “down below” and thought this was to do with my indoor bike fit.

I brought my indoor setup with me when I was having a pro bike fit and he adjusted everything to how my road bike is setup. I am still experiencing the numbness so I am guessing this is to do with slight vibrations.

What setting is everyone using for virtual gearing? One thing that’s always bothered me is how big the gaps are in the virtual gearing and how much different the victory gears are than Kickr etc. I’m currently using the all around with SRAM style and staying completely in the small ring (1x12), mostly gears 8-11.

My bike actually has SRAM 2x12 gearing, and is much tighter in reality compared to the “virtual” option.

I updated to the latest version 4.17. I didn’t find any particular change, I still have a problem with freewheel power on Zwift which displays low watts (varies between 8 and 17w) while I’m not pedaling. Otherwise the power is always very reliable, I have Assioma that I recalibrated with a weight to be sure of the power and both fuse quite well in any power zone. As soon as they finally have firmware to adjust the freewheel cadence the trainer will be 10/10
