Introducing the HoloReplay [2022]

The HoloReplay will let you do that, on timed routes … so, for example, the World Championship courses in Yorkshire, Innsbruck, Richmond, as well as the Hilly Loop and Volcano Circuit in Watopia.

It is currently restricted to timed segments already in the game, and where you have set a PB, or completed the route, in the previous 90 days. Personally I would love to see every route be a timed segment so you could always “race” against one of your previous times regardless of the route you select, but for the moment there are a number of full routes that should work. The Volcano circuit definitely does, because I have tried that one.

There is nothing as disspiriting as rounding the final bend, surrounded by lava and seeing two holographic versions of yourself sitting waiting for you with disappointed looks on their faces …

Well, yours at least seem to be holding some hope you will get better. Mine don’t even have a disappointed look, they’ve come to expect it now, it’s just normal - they’ve given up on me, so no longer even believe there’s any point in showing disappointment.

I had the same thing happen yesterday (tagging @xflintx as this has been repeated now). Hit the bottom of the Volcano KOM, and my holo popped up on the nearby riders board, but was listed as over 3 min ahead of me. Never saw him (it?) on screen, he was minutes ahead of me the whole time, even though I hit a PR on the climb. (I can post screen shots when I get a minute, not on my tablet right now.)

Thanks for the callout. Doesn’t sound like we should be seeing that, so I’ll make sure the dev team knows about it and we’ll work to get it fixed as soon as we can. Cheers.

Cool, thanks  Here’s a screenshot if it helps. You can see how far ahead my holo is (still almost 2 min at this point), along with my PR that the holo is embodying, and my expected time of significantly faster than the PR.

Add to the fact that I’ve seen other times in the Nearby list that are minutes ahead/behind, intermixed with “true” times. If I were a betting man, I’d say it’s the 3 dimensional nature of the Volcano Climb. It’s reading riders either above or below you.
But, that doesn’t explain how the HoloReplay can be minutes ahead immediately after starting the climb.

During the AdZ climb I learned the displayed time gap is pretty inaccurate. The entire ascent I followed my HoloReplay so that I could check the gap. After 1/3 of climbing when the gap was about one segment the inaccuracy became obvious. Finally, when the HoloReplay stopped before the summit, the displayed gap was fully off - about 3 minutes vs the 9 minutes I was late.

that’s standard across all of Zwift the time gap calculations on hills are way out. I 'd need to check but sure it calculates gaps based on distance rather than distance/elevation combination.

Sauce actually does a better job of it.

I think the time gap is just based on an arbitrary speed or power for other riders around you (i think) so maybe it does the same for the holoreplay?

It’s not critical at all, but today I saw my ghost avatar head only (well, might have been helmet only). Kinda amuzing, actually. Wish it was in time for Halloween, though.

It was the whole avatar when first appeared, but it was head only when I was in front getting passed by it. It regained the rest of body parts and the bike after it went ahead of me and the distance got longer (10m or so, I guess).

I have no idea why gaps are off since it’s not rocket science. Estimates based on power & speed may explain all reported scenarios. In fact, it’s actually a simple difference of 2 timestamps at identical location, which should be always available. I could add the equation here, but it’s simply math.

Cool screenshots!

It may be more of an assumption than a calculation

Thanks for sharing the link!

Pretty broken on Volcano KOM tonight. Let’s just say I can’t compete with my PR when the ghost isn’t having to do any climbing.

Elevation doesn’t match so the elevation profile and leaderboard both believe the ghost is much further up the hill, even though my pace is almost the same (see ETA vs PR) and the map itself shows the ghost just in front of me on plan:

@Dave_ZPCMR That’s pretty much what I saw as well, referenced in my post above.
I could see the HoloReplay indicator on the mini-map, but not on the road at all.

PACK finished a group ride today on Douce France then manually made a turn to the Petit KOM like we do for the after party and everyone reported the Holoreplays did not appear. We did the same thing 2-3 weeks ago and it worked fine. Today nothing.

I had similar.

I did the greatest london flat course this morning, no holoreplay on the first sprint but then when i completed the lap it appeared for the second run through. It was from a time from a few weeks ago so should have appeared both times.

then did the longer segment in the desert (not sure of the name!) and there was no holoreplay then either. I have set a time within the period so should have been one.

I did epic Kom 3 days ago… No HoloReplay appeared. It been working well on that segment several times previously.
