I saw a few discussions on this, but not really any definitive and complete answers. The discussions were also a bit old, so I don’t think their information is up to date.
I’ll be going on a trip soon, and I’ll be away for more than a week. I’d like to keep my Zwift streak alive somehow, but I won’t be able to bring any bicycle with me, and definitely not my trainer. I have no idea what kind of equipment will be available in the hotels where I’ll be staying. Obviously if a hotel has a gym with a compatible bike, I’m golden. Otherwise, what options do I have?
If I bring my heart rate monitor would running on a treadmill count as continuing my streak? I see some people online saying all you need to run is an Apple Watch, but it’s not listed as compatible running hardware on the Zwift site. Also, I really don’t like running, and I’m terrible at it. If running will extend my streak, how far do I have to go? I don’t know if I am actually capable of running far enough or long enough for it to count.
I am going to a place that has a public bike share I can use, but obviously those bikes won’t have power meters. Is there no way to Zwift on a bike without a power meter and have it count for my streak?
you have 13 days between rides to keep a streak, depending on when you leave and when you get back. The week starts on a Monday, so if you can ride on a Monday, you have until the following week Sunday, 13 days later, to get another ride in and keep the streak going.
Zwift on mobile, don’t pair anything to Zwift. Join a robopacer ride, let assist timer ~60secs run out, let avatar coast and/or activate 30sec coffee break to start accumulating distance. Transfer to other robopacer rides in same world until your avatar has coasted for 2Km before saving.
Coasting off Petit KOM summit in either direction on France will get 2Km in one go.
Could use group ride to start off, make sure it’s a world with robopacer rides. Simply quit group ride and then choose a robopacer to join.
Doesn’t that feel like “cheating” though, what is the point of having a streak if you aren’t actually riding or putting any effort in?
FYI, losing your streak and starting back over at 1 week doesn’t matter, it is pretty meaningless… no one but you can see it and there aren’t any prizes for who has the longest streak. I let my streak end months ago because it is nicer to ride outside in the summer with friends, no one but me knew that my streak had ended.
You could put a cheap speed sensor on a rental bike. Take some zip ties in case the hub is too fat. Possibly on an indoor bike but that’s more iffy. Never run though, it’s a waste of legs.
Yeah, it’s not a pretty way of doing 2Km to keep a streak alive, but possibly worth doing if your Zwift level is under 40 and you want the best frames/wheels for racing.
Because unfortunately, most races don’t put all racers on the same equipment for races, giving an advantage to users on higher levels.
Still, not an issue for September Zmonthly by the looks of things!
Paul’s suggestion is a good one is what I currently use.
I use a speed sensor on my MTB and open Zwift and pair the speed sensor and ride to the trail head (1.5 mi) then close Zwift.
I pick a flat route on Zwift and my IRL route is also flat but the accuracy at best is 10-15 % and much worse if there are any hills in Zwift or real life.
You don’t want to use very much because it is inaccurate, uses a lot of battery and data resources.
Hint- disable WiFi before starting and connect over data.
If you initially connect with WiFi, when you get out of range, your phone will switch over to data but I found there was a lag in doing so and when I arrived at the trailhead, Zwift only had me at 0.5 mile.
