Group workout speed issues

Hi folks

Very new rider here so apologies if this has been asked before, but I dug around and couldn’t find what I was looking for.

I did a group workout with people from my club today, which was a recovery ride, so low watts.

I kept finding myself falling back and eventually having to be rubber-banded back into the group, despite hitting the wattage I was meant to. I was unable to control my speed at all!

I am assuming this is something to do with ERG mode. I’m a little over 100kg and my ftp had updated to around 165 through some casual riding around - I have not completed an FTP test yet.

Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

I am using a tacx neo 2T.

Group workouts use a feature that rubber-bands everyone to keep them together in order to account for differing FTP settings, weight etc. If your FTP is set low and your weight is high as compared to those in the group then you would be bringing up the rear.
