Is there such a thing? Just now, I’m plonking my Garmin 840 on the rubber mat where my donuts are meant to go
Doesn’t the 840 come with one of those simple rubber-band affixed mounts you could use?
You’re probably right! I’ll have a look in the box when I get home.
I’m used to having an out front mount on my stem (MTB), so don’t look at the bits in the box.
There are lots of different Garmin mounts available (and depending on which SKU you got, different types come in the box (or not)).
A standard bar Garmin mount clamps around the handlebar so you can just attach the mount to the Ride handlebar. You would need to content with the bar tape because the tray covers up the center portion of the bars but seems like it would still work - it would just be off center.
I have a RockBros sweat catcher from my bars to my seat post. That and the ‘tray’ mean there’s not a lot of space on the bars. Although the Garmin 840 is quite small, it needs to be inserted, then rotated 90° to lock.
Because of the tray, a mount would need to be quite far over on the bars to allow space for the 90° rotation.
I’ve just mounted it to the top tube for now using the rubber band mount. Not ideal, but I don’t really need to see it. I just want Garmin to track my miles so they add to the Connect app.
I thought now everyone is 3D printing, that someone might have come up with a specific mount.
Could you buy one of the replacement mounts (just the internal quarter-turn piece that screws into the larger bar mount) and glue or screw it to the flat area on the Ride ‘stem’?
If you don’t need to see it, just put in on a table (or the floor) by your bike.
