I kinda like it too, not sure if it is because i get bored pretty easily or have a really short attention span but being able to go to the three sections that look completely different really easily/quickly keeps things more interesting for me.
Scotlan is fairly boring like that, I did the 2 decent length routes during the tour of scotland then polished the other 3 off back to back one morning, leaving the ultra boring crit circuit till last
I’m fine with the long routes; and even figure 8’s.
What I don’t enjoy are multiple laps of a route just to add distance.
That said; we have Makuri 40, but where’s Makuri 40 + Skyscraper climb in Neokyo + the dirt climb in Makuri??
There are still so many routes I would love to do in group rides and the like; but we have to wait on ZHQ to produce the routes themselves ![]()
There was a discussion the other day about the most soul-crushing ride on Zwift; and I still argue to this day it’s PRL full. Having to do that same climb lap after lap after lap for the majority of someone’s day is just… not fun to me, especially since it’s a pretty short loop distance wise.
I know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea; but I’d MUCH rather do something like 4.5 laps of London’s Triple Loops which covers 99% of the entire map, versus PRL full, which is what, 40% of the map?
Hopefully that makes sense…
That said, as soon as I have a good free rainy weekend, I’ll be tackling the new France lengthy route.
And I await seeing a Makuri 100 (which is totally possible without too many looped areas)
Richmond is crying out for a figure of 8 course
I haven’t found Scotland to be boring, and I’m trying to figure out why. Part of it is likely graphics, honestly. Makuri is my favorite, and Scotland has the same level of detail–while Yorkshire is absolutely my least favorite world, in large part because it’s boring as **** to look at.
But I also like Scotland’s terrain–it’s just a really nice rolling course, with climbs and descents that appeal to me personally. I could do loops of Scotland in a way I won’t of Richmond or London.
I’m a long route fan, the only one I haven’t done yet is PRL Full and that’s because London never seems to be on the rotation on weekends. (Yes, I know how to access it anytime, but I don’t wanna slog through 100 miles in an empty world.) Long climbs are great but I avoid Ventoux because it’s too damn steep for too damn long.
Do it on Sunday!
Is there a group ride? Looks like it’s Innsbruck + Richmond this weekend.
If the time works for you (not for me)
Ahh, 12:30 AM in my neck of the woods… that’s a hard no for me
.
As per another thread, need more long routes
Done them all.
Couple of times done Uber Pretzel and Mega Pretzel on back to back days
Oooooffff thats a hard - enjoy the challenge
I wish Mt Fuji would be added. 30 kilometer climb with 2,044 of elevation gain, averaging 7%. Would be good for long sweet spot sessions.
Real challenge for me with long routes is finding the chunk of time to knock them out. I did the France Classic Fondo yesterday. PRL full and Uber Pretzel are still pending.
this! i got the badges only because i decided to do these routes during a workout. i never would have chosen them otherwise. many of them aren’t even loops! i wonder if there was a specific strategy these were supposed to satisfy that never materialized?
I use those for warmups, or while I’m waiting for a meetup to start. Gotta ride a short distance somewhere, might as well get a badge ![]()
Wow, I get wheels nearly every second time on ADZ.
hah! I think once you get the 25x ADZ achievement the spinner gets more favourable. Or at least after you get the wheels once. I’m at 70x ADZ so far I think.
For me the longest routes are out at the moment because I’ve already done parts or most of the route in other normal rides and it’s just a badge that doesn’t give me anything, and I’m saving the XP up until we get released from the 750,000XP limit.
I’m also really not strong enough after recovery from my crash last year to do more than 60km, plus it generally means quite a bit of discomfort - I can’t sit on a trainer bike for as long as I used to do.
A longer route on roads I’ve never ridden before (without gravel) would tempt me, especially if it has a few HC level climbs.
Ventop is a great climb as well, it scares some of the regular ADZ crowd even - probably by its length and the relentless nature of it. It’s probably my favourite climb on Zwift.
If they added a virtual Col du Galibier and that would probably take over.
I think it gets more favourable after you get the wheels. Took me 14 tries to get the wheels and after that I seem to get them every 2 or 3 times up the alpe.
Oh, that’d be a great addition to Makuri.
Glue “Makuri 40” and something like “Temples and Towers” together (loop around Yumezi to cover all its roads) for a 50-60km ride with a bunch of punchy climbs that covers the whole map.
Further to some of the other comments up-thread, I feel like Zwift is getting better at “dialing in” their maps. I love how tight Scotland is - you get a lot of visual variety and short enough climbs to mimic interval workouts.
@Tom_J With you on Makuri for a map to just roll around. Tonnes of variety packed closely enough to not get boring. Much like @Gerrie_Delport_ODZ , I lose orientation in Neokyo but I’m committed to riding it enough to learn it.
I wonder how rider strength plays into map preference. I’m a solid Cat-D so I’m not moving very fast. A Cat-A rider going 50% faster might see things differently.
Rider strength is an interesting one. I’m a high-ish C with a good sprint who loves to go jersey hunting, so that’s also a reason I like Makuri. If you hit the right day, a 3 or 4 green jersey day is possible. (Hard, but possible
)
The climbs are also pretty good ones for my power curve, but Makuri is so so sprinty.
